Now that Musk is taking control? Or is it ok to contribute to his success?
Why/why not?

(115,899 posts)DU is made up of individuals, so DU can't boycott anything. It wouldn't break my heart to see Musk ruin it, though, since it's become a cesspool like Facebook. If TFG is allowed back in it will be exponentially worse.

I've trash threads that link to a tweet - and nothing else.

(3,213 posts)Musk will allow racist, homophobic, antisemitic hate and violence to be spewed there constantly. Trump will definitely be back on the platform inciting Civil War.
I won't be part of that trash.

(51,044 posts)his account back he is not linked here. Ever. We've done fine without him. Missed no news whatsoever. And as he thrives on attention my opinion is that we should give him none.
But I'm guessing this thread is a statement about the first amendment so carry on.

(9,132 posts)While I don't believe tech monopolies should have the censorious powers over the public sphere that they do, my curiosity doesn't revolve around that.
I'm more interested to see if the "Fuck Facebook!" crowd has rationales for why this is different. Twitter is promoted far more ubiquitously in political spaces, and it'll be an interesting experiment in seeing how far principle goes.
It is ever thus that our indulgences are a special case.

Just because everyone else likes muck diving doesn't mean I have to or need to.
Musk and Muck are not for me.
Musk should concentrate on exploding cars and running down pedestrians, things he has experience with.

...and simply post direct links to articles rather than tweets about them.
Twitter has become so ubiquitous in our lives that I am sure it won't be possible to completely disavow it, at least not right off the bat, but there are certainly ways that we can all lessen its use in our lives. That would probably be a good thing for everyone to do while we watch and see what path this potential new Twitter takes.

(2,202 posts)and will soon be nothing but a graveyard of porn and jabbering fanatics.
The emergency is exacerbated in a number of other ways, including shifting audience interests. Twitter has long been one of the few social media platforms to allow Not Safe For Work content like pornography, a medium most mainstream advertisers generally avoid. Unfortunately for the company, audience interest in this kind of explicit material has risen on the app, and now makes up about 13 percent of Twitters posts, according to an additional report seen by Reuters. This, coupled with a decreased interest in subjects like cryptocurrency following the markets dramatic crash earlier this year, makes the remaining English users less ideal for advertisersand thus less profitable for Twitter.
Friday is the last day for Musk to close a deal for the purchase of the social media platform. If he fails to do so, a November start date will be set for trial between the social media platform and the worlds wealthiest man.

And I don't see much objectionable content. You know why? Because I don't follow any RWNJ's
Twitter is what YOU make it.
Follow nothing but home gardeners and landscape photographers and you'll see nothing but flowers, trees and landscapes...
Follow bomb throwing partisan hacks and you'll have crappy content.

(1,495 posts)"Pandemic is over" political BS freaks. I block the Covid deniers and "live your life" people.
My beloved father died due to Covid last week. I will never get over this. My Dad was my favorite person in the world. I bought a house on the same street, 3 houses away from my childhood home, so we could always be together. He was only in his early 70s and healthy. He had all his vaccines. Now I will never see him again. And I have to live with knowing how badly he suffered from the ravages of Covid. I feel he was murdered by the "only vaxxers," "It's just a cold," and maskless people.
I follow a lot of like minded and smart people on Twitter so I'm not planning on leaving. If this enriches Musk, I don't care. I really don't care about anything anymore, except exposing the truth about how serious Covid still is so other families are spared the hell me and my family are going through now.
