I mean I have lost count of the number of times, people have embraced the crazy as truth.. the irrational as rational (think Charles Manson)
What is it about the human experience that people embrace the irrational.. and it is not just in the United States.. it is world wide..
It seems to be a failing in our own ability to separate truth from fiction.
Reading about the rallies for Trump.. Good grief.. here we go again..

(14,881 posts)... want a "strong leader" that they can worship.
If Trump openly declared himself a GOD (which honestly wouldn't surprise me given his extreme narcissism), he'd still have many followers.
There's been people treated like Gods throughout history -- Egyptian pharaohs, various kings, etc.
Right-wing authoritarian (RWA) personality is so bizarre to me that I can't even imagine thinking that way, but it's definitely a real phenomena.

I'd like to know how it has survived evolutionary selection for so long, but it's probably because RWA's killed the non-RWA's that they encountered!

(26,191 posts)I left Facebook in 2016 when many of my friends were posting pictures of Trumps with God hands spread out around him, Trump with a halo, etc. It made me sick to think that we were people I knew and they were looking at Trump as the Second Coming of Christ after the 2016 election. I left Facebook and never went back.To me Trump was as far away from Jesus as you can get and these "friends" were making him out to be the Messiah. Wrong. terribly wrong. And this was in 2016 that people were doing this. It is not a recent thing.

(4,281 posts)not like them: Democrats, people of color, people of different faiths, different of sexual orientation, etc. trump is pushing for violence, and his cult members are listening.
If they do a "jonestown or Heavensgate" that's their own suicide. BUT trump is pushing violence on "the others". That's what I'm terrified of: places of worship, community centers, grocery stores.
Jim Jones commanded some followers to fire upon and kill/wound rescuers. That was shocking and horrific, but it appears that trump is looking for mass killings. His cult members are waiting his commands.
He continues to hold rallies to keep the Genni Thomas true believers cult members motivated and fired up.
