The only problem is that the winner has to pick up the kudzu at their nearest Olive Garden.

you know, say, how many have posted this year

I agree the design is stellar, and a major reason I keep donating to DU is it keeps improving.....if you want an example of a website that, like its members, NEVER EVOLVES, check out the Freak, er, FREE Republic.....

Of course, Elad and Earl G could tell us in a heartbeat, but I don’t really think it’s that many.

One reason I feel this way is because of the way OP’s are grouped.

Just click on the “Author” tab at the top of any forum and then scroll through the names. You’ll find some members literally have pages and pages of OP’s they put up. I also consider the number of posts vs the length of their membership. I’ve pretty much averaged around 3.5 posts per day since I signed up almost 20 years ago, yet there are some who rack up 100,000 posts inside 5 years.

I consider myself an active member, reading daily for the past seventeen years but seldom posting an OP.

a few years before that; I think I found this place in 2001 or, possibly, 2002) and have yet to reach 1,000 posts.

I'm getting close though!

Sometimes I’ll go for a week or more without posting and then I’ll post a bunch in the span of a few days.

My definition of “Active Member” differs a bit from Mister Ed above, in that I consider someone to be active if they post once in a while, say a few times a week, anyway. Enough so that someone could get to know their perspective on things. But the fact that both you and he have relatively low post counts vs. your tenure means to me that you are sitting in the circle of the conversation, you’re just doing a shitload more listening than talking. And I respect that a lot.

Some people don’t really have anything meaningful to say and post a fuck ton to prove it.

and the vast number of members read DU to get up-to-date on the facts, take the temperature of what many think while never posting themselves.

I know I read DU for at least a year before I even signed up and it was even longer before I posted anything.
