..like they did President Carter.
SNL HELPED COST PRESIDENT CARTER HIS 2ND TERM WITH THEIR SLAMING OF HIM ALL SEASON!
& then along came the clown raygun who used Herbert's CIA to torture the House of Saud's disidents, pissing off OBL while he ARMED & FUNDED HIM, draging US into the RNC MIDDLE EASTERN SECTARIAN MUSLIM WARS!

They should have told him, "YOU'RE FIRED!" his 1st season!
NBC, like all of the commercial media, like having their CEOs, top executives & multimedia talking heads paid multi-million$ unfairly lumped into the same tax bracket as a working middle class family or a small business owner earning $647,850!
Flat taxes are effectively regressive taxation.that please the elitely paid (excuding Bill Gates & Warren Buffet & others who already understand the benefits to ALL of US!.
Dollars that could be used to help build Personal MaglevTransit modularly.

(47,750 posts)and completely expect them to make fun of Biden. It is the ageism jokes that are highly offensive, not funny, and feed the right's narrative. It is an easy and cheap laugh though often minus the actual laugh.

(4,254 posts)I pvrd it. Then check it out. It is not the quality it was as in the beginning when I watched. I there were better writers then who went on to better shows.

(47,750 posts)Some of those skits are just dumb, not funny at all. I like Weekend Update and the opening sequence which is often good, but one ageism joke too many makes me reluctant to watch it anymore.

I worked on Carter's campaign, and took an in-depth class on the 1980 President election (with access to campaign staff) and...no, some SNL skits didn't skew the election.

(8,979 posts)Ford was repeatedly characterized as an absent-minded klutz. Carter was the beneficiary of that portrayal. At the end of the day, incumbents are always fair game on SNL.

(74 posts)to interrogate Saudi dissidents, which pissed off OBL & resulted in 911 & THOUSANDS of dead & 10s of thousands of maimed Americans, so, yes I did not like Reagan & regret that President Carter was unfairly deprived a 2nd term.
Side note, while in Hawaii, I wrote his Department of Transportation about an idea of mine about adding computer coordinated slot tracks to our roads, & got back several books about personal rapid transit & maglev technology & research.
If I knew how to post pictures here, I could upload some copies of some pages here.

SNL hasnt been worth a damn since Eddie Murphy left. Most people today, I think, have no clue how good it was back in the late 70s, mid-80s. Why NBC keeps flogging this dead horse Ill never know.

From Houston to Hawaii to California.
I miss the warm water of Texas, from waterskiing & even wake surfing on the San Jacinto River in 1966 to surfing at Surf Side & Quitana Beach & all the other surf breaks of Texas from Galveston south to Padre Island & Port Isabel.
I do not miss the humidity or mosquitoes though!
Or the draconian laws for cannabis, or the Guns-Gone-Wild culture of the RNC punks.

(1,836 posts)This is what they do. They make skits about public figures and mock them. They did it to Trump, they did it to Obama, they did it to Bush (both of them), they did it to Clinton. President Biden isnt a sacred cow who cant be satired.

& I was told I could post it in the GD forum.
You are of course right about no 1 being off limits, but I still felt SNL added to some of the mean & false accusations about 1 of our best Presidents ever.
Much like some against President Biden, who is already proving himself as 1 of our best Presidents ever;

(14,061 posts)How many times did Baldwin do Trump in the cold open? I think your issue is with the poor writing and how the show has deteriorated.
Good comedy does not fall along political lines, as many others have pointed out.
Really surprised at the posts here today, taking issue with networks and shows that dont pay what they consider proper deference to Democrats. No individual or institution is above criticism or parody. Thats not how this country rolls at least, not yet.

Honestly, I think criticizing SNL or any comedian for teasing our president or any president is weak sauce. They dont work for the president. We get to vote with our viewership.
