Another moral degenerate, just like Trump pretending to be a good "conservative Christian" these people are literally just actors seriously and people gobble it up.

really annoys me. One of my employers, who is Jewish, once explained to me that in Judaism, one must seek forgiveness from those you have wronged before asking forgiveness from God. Makes sense to me.
Too many Christians take comfort in the free pass, so to speak, of being forgiven by the alleged almighty, and make no effort to change their ways or make amends. What about the, Go and sin no more that I learned about as a kid in Sunday school?
Hypocrisy and things not making sense are why I am a contented, questioning, agnostic Unitarian Universalist.

When you hear criticism of the (evangelical) "Sinner's Prayer" etc. (particularly by Catholics), this is what they are objecting to. The theological critique is, in a nutshell, that sin causes damage and has to be repaired much like a physical injury. But it's no surprise that the "doctrine of cheap grace" would take off in America, where "name it and claim it" aka "blab it and grab it" prosperity theology is also so popular.

(35,668 posts)We did research on how long readers stay with a story for our school paper ar a university. Thats how we ended up doing bullet points.
This coincides with attention span and the rise of digital content. It has to do with the sensation the brain gets from clicking.
The NY Times did a story on it. All of us who regularly read on the internet have this attention span issue. It takes discipline to read long content in this environment.

I did not hurt or humiliate a marriage partner. It seems however that her behavior in thought, word, and deed is a continual grasping at ego, grasping at the desire to be important, relevant, a somebody. Yet all that unmindful selfish grasping results in making herself such an easy target for ridicule and criticism. I'll bet she never asks herself, "What can I do that would be of benefit to others?" Nope. She's all about me, me, me.
I feel sorry for her. What happened in her childhood that resulted in such an ignorant, selfish, hurtful woman? There's a lesson in her sad saga: Ya gonna reap just what ya sow.

(16,394 posts)I was fed the same thing growing up as a southern Baptist. I was also taught that no matter what you do, Christ/God will always forgive you when you ask for forgiveness. But if you're really "saved," you won't want to do bad stuff.
I was also taught that when you're really "saved," your heart will be flooded with joy, and you will be happy, happy, happy! When it didn't work that way, I thought there was something wrong with me. That's just one of the reasons I left that kind of religion.
Even after all that, I am not an atheist. Fundamentalism makes me twitch, but people bashing "religion" like it's all one monolithic thing also makes me twitch.
P.S. I think the song you quoted was "The Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire.

(11,738 posts)The problem is that Taylor Greene is trying to legislate personal morality and even in her stupid press release, she talks about marriage between a "man and a woman" and families with "a mother and a father". Her actions, and I am sure, her attitudes, likely destroyed her marriage and has created a traumatic situation going forward for her children.
The problem that I think people have is that Taylor Greene moralizes and judges people while expecting to be treated with respect and have her privacy considered when she offers no such reciprocation. She wants to be left alone to deal with a private matter (which is understandable) but then she harasses others who deserve the same respect and privacy.
She has ideas about the "family" and sanctity of marriage which she wants to impose on others while failing in her own situation. There are gay and lesbian couples who have been together decades, who until recently were never afforded the respect of having their relationships recognized by society. Many have stayed together through hardship and do not have any history infidelity, yet Taylor Greene sees their very existence as a "threat to society".
It is ridiculous. People do not "threaten society" by their existence. People's actions are what constitutes a problem. If a gay or lesbian couple marry, have a good relationship, and raise well adjusted children, they are not a threat, they are helping to build and strengthen society by forming stable relationships and adding good people to society with their children. It is same as if a heterosexual couple did so. I would rather live with all homosexual couples and their children, who are in good stable relationships than to live with heterosexual couples who fight and whose children are jerks. Of course homosexual couples can also be in bad relationships and be bad parents, but it has VERY LITTLE to do with them being attracted to the same sex.
Taylor Greene had affairs, likely committed crimes related to her job as US Rep. with her campaign finances, and just seems to be a toxic person, which may have influenced her husband to file for divorce. Her actions have "weakened society". She is in NO position to judge others, especially based solely on her perception of their existence. Problem is she will keep doing that despite the hypocrisy of her own situation. Conservatives tend not to be bothered by their hypocrisy. They seem to believe that there is one set of rules for "other" people, and a different set (if any) for them.
