Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPublic service announcement - I got my Omicron booster yesterday @ 3pm. It's now 8am CA time.
Yesterday I hydrated w/plenty of different fluids: Smart Water, green tea, black tea, plain water. I ate good food. I cleaned my house, and folded clothes. So I was ready for side effects. I'm in my late 60's.
About 3 hours after the shot, my arm at the injection site became sore, and then the shoulder became a little sore and tight. Last night I was chilled and wrapped myself in my quilt. I believe I had fever, because my body was warm to the touch. The nights are getting a little cooler, so that might be why I covered up.
This morning I'm fatigued w/little appetite. My usual yogurt/seeds/fruit/granola is just sitting there. I'll save it for later. I just drank 2 cups of Irish black tea (w/milk), which tasted delish. I will not join my husband for our Thursday swim workout followed by lunch. He got the shot also, so he may not feel up it either. He's still sleeping. I will putter around the house today, doing chores slowly, and take plenty of naps. It's been 17 hrs since the shot w/noticeable side effects, but so far not too bad.
This is my 5th shot of Moderna: 2 original, 2 boosters, and now this Omicron one. So far the side effects of this one is milder than the others. I did prepare a little better for this one. I will update later @ 20 & 24 hours post injection. My arm is still sore & tight - but not too bad.
So far my recommendation is to get it! I was a little hesitant at first because of the prior side effects (24 hrs of fever/lethargy), but this one is not bad (knock on wood). And the best part is that we have not had Covid & we do go places w/precautions & enjoy life.

(3,044 posts)Think about if you both had a bad reaction, who is going to take care of you? If you have extended family or others you know would jump in to help maybe but the convenience of one trip may not be worth the risk for all. My wife and I are separating our shots by a week. I do hope we all keep up with boosters as we need to limit this disease's ability to evolve into a much more virulent and deadly variant to the extent we can. The risks are NOT over.

(4,251 posts)you're right, we were caring for each other. Thanks.
we can do it
(12,196 posts)Easier to keep track of. Other than fatigue and sore arm no real side effects. Doesnt really make sense to leave someone vulnerable for quickly passing symptoms.

(14,049 posts)That was my 2nd booster.
My advice to everyone - get it ASAP.

(6,920 posts)My arm was much sorer than it had been with the first vaccine, the second dose and the two boosters barely made my arm sore. I was also very tired and fell asleep several times both the day of the vaccine and the day after. None of the first four doses made me tired. Two days after the vaccine, I was back to normal, Still well worth it.

NO REACTION!
Lucky, I guess.
Yes, I also find sufficient hydration is key!

(4,251 posts)to get the flu shot at the same time. We said we'll hold off until next month for that.
SergeStorms
(19,204 posts)to hold off on getting the flu shot until mid-October or so. The flu season has been extending itself into late spring now, and the shots efficacy begins to wear down by then.
Another effect of global warming, perhaps?
I had my Omicron booster last week. Pfizer.....no problems. I'll hold off on the flu shot for a few more weeks, then hopefully I'm good to go. 😊

(12,480 posts)Along with my flu shot. Both made my arms sore.
Covid hurt a tad bit more than the flu did. Other than that a little tired went to bed @ 11 instead of 12 that night.

(4,515 posts)The other times I just had arm pain, but didn't even have that this time.

(16,254 posts)I dozed off a lot, but that actually felt quite good. I usually take Tylenol before I go for the shot and that helps a lot. I have Trump's misery to follow, so if I'm laid up for a while, I will be entertained.
Warped brain, I know, however I've waited so long for him to trip and fall.

(34,093 posts)so I'm surprised at hesitation.
I'll get mine as soon as I'm cleared - regardless of side effects. (Post-COVID, I had a medically unusual case of pancreatitis, something labeled acalculous chronic cholecystitis (which no one who isn't on their death bed actually gets), and three immune deficiencies - which don't match the usual consequences of them. Waiting for the results of another round of immune tests to see if I need infusions - or if they were only temporary consequences of COVID.)
And - like you - I'm living life to the fullest, with the minor inconvenience of masking indoors and getting vaccinations when they are recommended.
AnotherMother4Peace
(4,251 posts)I knew it was beneficial for our health, so we prepared w/ very good results.
Plus we have 2 adult sons who were "on us" as soon as the vaccines became available.
Medical science has evolved and improved so much. My prayers are with you that Doctors find the answers & cure for your medical condition. Make sure you treat yourself to some treat, maybe a music video, or classical dance, or Rocky Road ice cream, etc.

(34,093 posts)The overall immune levels are normal. (The overall immune levels were just slightly low when I was hospitalized about 2 months ago. It was the component parts which were wild - those take a bit longer for results - so I've got a couple of days to see if they have resolved.)
I'm treating myself to being a student again - I spent the afternoon in the the darkroom today. Unfortunately, until everything is declared back to normal I don't get Rocky Road ice cream - pancreatitis and cholecystitis = low fat diet.

(102,378 posts)and that is basically NADA. Nothing except for maybe an "awareness" -- not really pain at the injection site-- and absolutely nothing else. This goes for each of my first vaccine series, and now three boosters--all but the last booster having been Pfizer. I intentionally received Moderna last time in order to try to maximize my immune response. To that end, I also discontinue NSAIDs two days before and three days after so as to prevent anything that could suppress a full immune response--and I received the flu vaccine two days before the bivalent COVID booster--nothing after that either.
So, I count myself fortunate, surely, but also want to reassure those who think it automatic that you will have a significant side effect--or that it is abnormal (i.e., maybe didn't get an actual "active" vaccine) if you do not.
Corporatism aside, in the words of Nike, JUST DO IT!

(4,251 posts)hit hard early on with Covid. The "feeling of suffocation" with resulting death that she witnessed was traumatic for her. She had to tell families that there was no hope for loved ones who were healthy just days before. Torturous for all involved. GET THE COVID BOOSTER! - Hell of a lot better then suffocation and long covid. "Just Do It".
SergeStorms
(19,204 posts)is yet another reason to GET THE OMICRON BOOSTER!
I read that in this morning's NYT, I think. That was mind boggling. Take every precaution available to keep COVID away from you and yours.

(3,819 posts)along with flu shot. Got Pfizer this time after 4 previous doses were Moderna. A little soreness in each arm and a little groggy last night. Feeling better today though not quite 100%. Should be fine by tomorrow.

(23,337 posts)I was down for the count the day after...epic body aches and fever for 12 hours. Woke up the 2nd day feeling fine. It's worth it, imho. I do not want to take covid for another test drive.

(5,164 posts)I got mine 2 weeks ago. I am starting to feel better finally. Myalgia and malaise were my main symptoms, pain in my arm, swelling, itching and a weird rash nearby on my arm but not at the injection site. I had the same rash after the last booster also. Im not sure if its related or not. Oddly enough no fever from the boosters. Just a slightly higher temperature but I have a lower temperature from Hashimotos. I hope you feel better soon.
drumpfsucks
(43 posts)No redness or swelling. Shoulder and "shot-side" of neck got a little stiff 8 hours after shots.
NO OTHER PROBLEMS.
Get both shots for your sake and others.

(10,039 posts)A little soreness around the injection site and, maybe, slight fatigue were the only adverse effects I could perceive. I was pleasantly surprised as the previous doses were worse.

(4,251 posts)Little sore. I just ate a cold mango that tasted so good. Yes, definitely feeling better. This is at the 24 hour mark. My temperature was 99.6 at its highest. Im actually glad I had these side effects because I know its working. Thanks all. I just feel better about being safe. Get the jab.

(24,891 posts)At least 20 other maskless individuals in the room. Plus spouse thinks she has had it for over a week (3 negative at home tests). I must have been exposed for hours this week.
No symptoms at all, knock on wood.
Never had Covid as far as I know. Since March 2020 haven't even had the sniffles.
The 5th shot just gave me a 3 day sore arm.

(1,528 posts)Not even a sore shoulder or warm feeling.
I hope it stays that way. Another week and I should be at maximum protection.
My last booster was last December.
By the way my neighbor had Omicron a few months ago and was mild flu symptoms at the time. But now she is having some problems and is going to have a heart function testing to see if the Omicron caused some heart damage. She is in her early 70s. Covid is still some bad stuff.
