(16,898 posts)Would you rather...have Warren Spahn or Greg Maddux as your staring pitcher?

(53,971 posts)Here's an oldie rephrased for you.
Spahn and Maddox then pray for rain.
Spahn and Sain were an incredible match. The Braves have had their fair share of great pitching for sure. I think about when Maddux played and the rotation was made up Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and Avery.

(36,493 posts)On July 2, 1963, Juan Marichal pitched a 16-inning shutout against the Milwaukee Braves, outdueling Warren Spahn, who pitched 151/3 scoreless innings before Willie Mays won it 1-0 with a home run. Marichal threw 227 pitches; Spahn threw 201.
Curiously, Willie Mays hit the walk off run against Spahn, yet was essentially relegated to the footnotes to the pitching duel of the century.
