We have an ex-president that incited an insurrection, committed treason, and lies like Baghdad Bob. We have a Rethuglican governor that kidnapped refugees and committed fraud, and not only are they going to skate, but the GOP is poised to take the house. American Exceptionalism indeed!

(4,616 posts)The people put this government in place. Doesn't matter how much you pour in, if the people aren't having it it doesn't matter. Obama proved that.

(35,438 posts)We have the country that they want. Not the country that we want. Not the country that is the best for all of us. We have the country that best suits the interests of the capital holding class. We're only allowed enough democracy to placate the masses and mitigate all out revolution.
Objectively, Joe Biden is having one of the best presidencies in the history of this country, but the capitalist class wants the ridiculous Republican party to re-take the House so as to check Biden's presidency. They would even be comfortable with Trump as president.
are at the mercy of the voting citizen. That's how it works. A few hundred (which IS the ruling Class) can't out vote the majority of us serfs. Blame republicans. Blame white supremacists. Blame the religious zealots. Blame money. Blame the kid next door. It won't change the fact that the government we currently have, is the government the voters, non voters, the "I just don't like who is running" third party voters have selected. We have the government the PEOPLE choose.

(35,438 posts)Republican candidates for president have lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 presidencies. More Americans voted for Democrats in the House and Senate than Republicans. In some states more Democrats voted than Republicans, but Republicans still hold power in the states.
Our Byzantine election systems are designed to thwart democracy from exerting power over the capital class.

(10,495 posts)When we rank candidates by how much $ they raise in legal bribes (campaign donations) what do we expect will happen?
Big donors control politicians and get the laws they want and get rid of those they don't.
The big donors are also the big advertisers and thus they have huge leverage over the MSM. Thus there are stories we will never hear of and others that are propaganda design to manipulate us. The MSM will never really talk about campaign finance reform because a.) they are the recipients of all of that money, and b.) the big donors/advertisers insist it not be mentioned.
Lastly, we get caught up in fighting the symptoms of this corruption such as our inability to regulate guns, environment, immigration... and do not join together to focus on the two root causes above. They keep us polarized and fighting each other rather than going after the oligarchs who control much of our country' media and political systems.

Since $ is everything, yup welcome to the FUBAR version of the U.S.A.

I refuse to believe all hope is lost.
