Good collection! Thank you!

(19,204 posts)and thought, "he snuck one past the censors".
According to Stormy, that's about the size of it.
I actually saved my original copy of the Nat Lamp with the dog on the cover. I have about a dozen other issues that I thought were worth saving as well. They're probably worth some righteous bucks by now, but I'll hand them down to my daughter.

(810 posts)Don't vote for Republicans and they kill the dog. Vote for Republicans and he's dead anyway.

(18,689 posts)I think it was inside the front cover (or maybe on the cover, I forget) the dog is seen dead.
The text goes on to explain how they didn't want to do it, but not enough of us bought the issue. Sure, some of us bought two or even three issues to save the poor dog, but in the end it just wasn't enough. Sorry.

(12,465 posts)I remember at the time thinking this was so wrong yet so brilliant. I loved National Lampoon and when it became less interesting, I was happy to discover Spy magazine, which had the same vibe as the early National Lampoon, and had the goods on TFG early on, calling him the "short-fingered vulgarian."

(18,689 posts)I recall graduating from comic books of my youth to the cutting edge humor and artwork of MAD Magazine as a tween.
Then I discovered the less polite Cracked in high school. The National Lampoon was my adult destiny. I would probably still read it if that crew was involved.

(19,204 posts)as best cover of the decade, or something like that. It certainly was clever. I still have my original copy. 😊

(19,204 posts)isn't much of a family, unless there are severe allergies etc. There's not a whole lot of love in family like that.
