WASHINGTON The Justice Department has issued about 40 subpoenas over the past week seeking information about the actions of former President Donald J. Trump and his associates related to the 2020 election and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, according to people familiar with the situation.
Two top Trump advisers, Boris Epshteyn and Mike Roman, had their phones seized as evidence, those people said.
The departments actions represent a substantial escalation of a slow-simmer investigation two months before the midterm elections, coinciding with a separate inquiry into Mr. Trumps hoarding of sensitive documents at his residence in Florida, Mar-a-Lago.
Among those the department has contacted since Wednesday are people who are close to the former president and have played significant roles in his post-White House life.
Those receiving the subpoenas included Dan Scavino, Mr. Trumps former social media director who rose from working at a Trump-owned golf course to one of his most loyal aides and has remained an adviser after Mr. Trump left office. Stanley Woodward, one of Mr. Scavinos lawyers, declined to comment.

(4,913 posts)Scores of subpoenas issued, phones seized, any and all information about J6 must be turned over. It is Game On. There are people from Trumps White House, members of congress, state representatives, trump lawyers, organizers, anyone who helped Trump. who are now sweating bullets.

I had planned on resting tonight. But now I'll be watching the news, and here on DU!
Thank you for this.

Did the author feel the need to politicize a criminal investigation?

(11,329 posts)as a "slow simmer." That seems a bit of editorial garnish to me. (just my own humble opinion)
What this might possibly be pointing toward though - is a bit of slap back at the NYTimes who just last week were letting us know that the Department was 'struggling' with a dilemma regarding the, quote, "60 day rule."
As if to say, "That so? Here .. hold my beer!"

(11,329 posts)but I kind of wonder if some of the media isn't a bit hacked off - because this department isn't feeding them juicy bits on a regular basis. 'No fair!"
