Schumer: We should protect marriage equality now, before the maga-controlled Supreme Court steps in

Schumer: So when some Republicans say, oh, this is unnecessary, it won't happen, remember, that's the same thing they said about roe, and look at where we are today. We should protect marriage equality now, well before the maga-controlled Supreme Court steps in

11. The problem is the extent of the religious exemption that it would take to get 10 GOP votes

at some point the rights taken away from those in completely blue states would out pace the rights granted to those in red states. I admit to not knowing where that line is.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

This is the true wet dream of the Republicans and what we are heading for should they gain control again and we cannot trust the 6 conservative judges on SCOTUS to protect us.

13. Marriage is a civil contract under US law. This is separate from any religious sanction.

The court will try to apply religious bias to bend civil law with the implication that those denied recognition by certain religious groups do not qualify as citizens deserving the law's protection. Thus a select and arbitrary theocracy becomes the official arbiter of American law rather than the US Constitution.

14. I'm really enjoying how our leaders are pointing out exactly what a dirty word MAGA is.

It's an obscenity, and they're pointing that out loudly.

This is a great new trend in our party.

Birth control, inter-racial marriages, marriage equality, reproductive rights, LBGTQ, trans kids rights, voting rights, etc.

I don't trust those RW nut jobs on SCOTUS to not get rid of anything and everything they don't like. Clarence Thomas is such an a-hole, I can see him voting to overturn Loving...just because.
