On Mehdi Hasan tonight, he debated whether to indict Trump before the election. The consensus was that DOJ would not indict 65 days prior to the election because the MSM would be all over DOJ for being partisan to Democrats. So, DOJ can't indict Trump 65 days prior to the election but James Comey can announce the bogus investigation into Hillary's emails 11 days before the election but the MSM did not object to what Comey did, it pushed lock her up.
See the difference?
The MSM is right wing, all of it, it pushes Magat talking points. So much coverage of Trump's rally with a tiny mention about President Biden's speech to the nation.

(32,836 posts)Having said that, I dont think thats whats front and center on Merrick Garlands mind. A slam dunk no wiggle room indictment with a 100% chance of conviction is first.

(21,526 posts)you are correct, it drove out Trump's base for the 2020 election. The thing is, the impeachment of Trump drove out more Democrats than Republicans.
Are you sure that a pre-election indictment of Trump would bring out more Magats than Democrats? It didn't work that way for Trump's impeachment.

(52,534 posts)Which is why they're not going to do to republicans what they did to democrats.
See how that works?
Doj won't break the rules anymore either.
The media decided they were way too fawning to Donnie, but hitch is why they are being responsibly critical of Biden now.
See how that works?

(21,526 posts)Here is the thing about waiting to indict him, he will immediately announce he is running for president and then he will appeal, delay, appearing before a grand jury.
Fiendish Thingy
(15,725 posts)The Grand Jury will have already spoken via the indictment.
Trump would proceed directly to trial, with his flailing attempts to delay the inevitable.
Announcing his candidacy would have no effect on DOJs actions at this point in time.

(6,424 posts)It is a game to them and they don't care how they win?
Consequences aren't even considered much?
Media just wants people glued to it for ratings and advertising revenue based on said ratings.
If all is right in our world, they are much much poorer?
Sucks, news outfits trying to make/augment, instead of just reporting...
Flexible facts!

(24,384 posts)Did anyone mention the fact that Trump is not currently running for any office and is a private citizen?

I only watch Nicolle, Chris Hayes, and Mehdi on cable news. I would like Mehdi to get a prime time slot. he should have gotten Alex Wagner's spot.

(21,526 posts)he had 3 guests on, 2 of them said to wait after the election, the writer for the Atlantic, I think his name is Adam Greene, understood, but would indict.
Just stop and think if cable news anchors would have a debate like we are having here for this thread. It is what they should be debating. Do not underestimate the power of controlling the narrative. Instead of talking about indicting Trump they are talking about the search warrant, about Trump's rally.

(3,955 posts)If this were just about anyone else, they'd have been charged and jailed without bond and that's what should happen to him. He shouldn't even be eligible to announce he's running for President and if the GOP had an ounce of integrity, they'd make it impossible for him to seek their nomination.
Let's get on with this.
As far as his rallies go, they're not even filling the small venues where they're held. People don't want to spend two hours waiting in line and then two hours listening to a demented, rambling, repetitive speech that seeks applause after every line. No charge now, they're free.

(45 posts)Comey was absolutely wrong to announce something like that 11 days before an election.
Justice matters.
(6,962 posts)he did with the documents, and especially those that are missing.
This is about National Security GDI, military informations and materials, not about a midterm election!
Besides, he would lie to the FBI (easy to predict that) so indict him for it too.
And pretty sure that the next day, he would publicly claim that the FBI planted them in his office, and that he never stole them, which would contradict many of his previous statements.
Let him squirm and lie every day until the election. Expose how dangerous he is to the NS, to the troopers abroad, to the military. A lot of anti-trump conservatives may decide to vote for Dems, or just stay home disgusted, and keep informing young women about Roe-vember.
Force republiQons to defend their Dear Leader... I don't think independents will vote for treason...
