From my viewpoint, we are already a semi-fascist nation.

The wealthy and corporations along with an army of corporate-owned lobbyists definitely put the interests of corporations and the wealthy ahead of the will of the people.

That's why a majority of Americans support the policies Democrats support but Republicans continue to exert their will on America.

Major changes are needed.

Repealing Citizens United and supporting voting rights is a good start.

1. We are a flawed democracy. There are pro fascist elements in our society

I would avoid absolutes. Calling the United States right now a fascist country mostly shows you've never lived in an actually fascist country.

You are either pregnant or you are not. We are not a fascist country yet but we do have warning signs, Laws like Citizens United certainly are an indicator that we are going in the wrong direction.

9. By your reasoning, the US has always been semi-fascist. Sorry, I don't buy that.

Citizens United has not always been the law in this country.

I'm not the only one who thinks we're showing fascist tendencies.

Viktor Orbán appeared at CPAC.

From The Guardian last December:
America is now in fascism’s legal phase

We need to recognize this and act accordingly. Vote Blue.

12. I think the point is Magas haven't taken control

at this point. Joe called them semi-fascist. I think he was being nice saying semi. But the country is not all Magas. Yeah, money and corporations effectively control way too much of our governance, but we still have our vote and a democracy that is still hanging in there. I personally think we need some monumental changes, but first we need to foremost protect and preserve democracy so that we still have the ability do that — make those changes.

2. If so it's inverted Fascism... in Fascism the central gov't is totalitarian
Fri Sep 2, 2022, 07:02 AM
Sep 2022

and makes all the decisions about how to use the means of production... in the US corporations make all the decisions about government, and particularly how the state tax revenue is evil and will be spent to increase corporate profits.

Also Fascism comes from the Latin term "fasces" which sounds like but isn't feces, in Rome it was an axe that had a bundle of rod-like handles (there are models of them on the back of the old US dime, and also on the walls of the House of Reps above the Speaker's dias) symbolizing the unity of the nation and the House. In the US we are less and less united and the radical right of the GOP and Supreme court are trying to tear down the Federal system that actually provides the unity of Centralized gov't by pushing 'states rights' powers as the solution to everything.

5. We've been semi-Fascist since Citizen's United decision

That decision allowed corporations and wealthy oligarchs to buy our gov. All that dark money--whew! And married to Evangelicals to wage stupid culture wars to get people all riled up and filled with self-righteous hate.

10. There needs to be a distinction between the economic system of fascism and the totalitarian
Fri Sep 2, 2022, 08:07 AM

method of running a government.

Economically, we are probably 100% fascist. The best example was "Engine Charlie" Wilson. "What's good for G.M. is good for the country."

The Koch brothers (now minus one) and their fellow travelers, are not interested in gays, abortion or prayer in schools when they push for conservative politicians to elect Supreme Court judges. They are looking for laws and judicial decisions that will reduce taxes on corporations and eliminate business regulations.

They want fascism and they got it.

Fascist totalitarian behavior? Coming soon, to a community near you. January 6th was the opening shot.

When he came into the WH, he brought that mind set with him. GE has always been a big player DOD conracts. Is it any wonder that Reagan bent over backwards to shut down Vietnam protests at UC Berkeley and other state schools?
