My Trumper customer has gone quiet. But:

her big arguments are against immigration (hoards coming across the Southern border), CRT, and atheletes taking a knee.

She's Irish so the immigration thing is a little hypocritical.
I don't do politics with customers. Arguing with people whose main motivation is hate is a waste of my time.

Taking a knee when meeting the queen or pope or bishop is a sign of respect.
Taking a knee has always been a sign of respect.

Now, if Kaepernick had stood and turned his back on the flag, that is a sign of disrespect.
If one flies a Confederate flag or a swastika next to an American flag, that's a sign of disrespect.

they know absolutely nothing about. And naturally anything that Trump does or has done will be justified, no matter how absurdly, then carefully portioned out for them to digest.

These people gave up thinking for themselves long ago. They merely wait for the next broadcast to tell them the "truth" and what to think.

Is that there's a good number of "go alongs" who just go along with the dominant influence in their immediate surroundings in order to have camaraderie. A friend is of that nature, abused woman with a bully for a son to whom she rarely says "no" because he's a relentless bully like his dad.

When I spoke to her yesterday, she was complaining about all the things about rumpism that she hates, she's not real sharp but she's not ignorant either. Sadly, all you have to do is offer info on a topic and she'll find a rationale for it to avoid confrontation with those around her, which includes never mentioning it due to opposition in the crowd.

I see that in the red areas of the country and I find it troubling because it represents the power of male domination that has brought us nearly to ruin. And they may yet succeed.

I think it will turn out to be more a traditionalism phenomenon. A thing begotten and emerged, fully formed, from the prairie's unforgiving upturned sod. Its where the losers of the confederacy self-exiled in the 1870-90 era, taking their backward hillbilly "gentility", their surliness regarding historical facts and their penchant to recreate the past in a fabrication straight out of "Birth of a Nation". Now, all-a-sudden they're the "sons of the pioneers", plowing and cattle-izing the indian's hunting grounds. Still haven't got their history straight but you're on their shit list if you aren't straight. Public school rooms were the realm of women for a century or so and the resultant "sanctity" of women and their idealized, voiceless and voteless, placement in the scheme of things is reflected in the resentment engendered thereby. Now, they exist only to despise being flown over, solidly behind TFG, this season's current lionized creature of mythic horridness who in his twisted and perverse self reflects the epitome of their self-actualization.

Well said!

Yet, weirdos still migrate here thinking they can escape the rule of law and that pesky assimilation to social norms to any degree part. Many still that nobody lives here until they show up. And many most certainly think they will "show us how it's done" when they come careening into town with no knowledge of local culture... which is not appreciated by most of the locals. Most of those incoming are some kind of misogynous type with a skewed view of the social contract and their responsibilities within it. Recognition of the rights of others seems to be optional for these folks.

It's what's responsible for the trope of "a conservative is a liberal who got mugged": someone who was just cruising along with what they absorbed by osmosis, without any real roots and reasons to it, making them ripe for recruitment by con's after a scare.

I kid you not, he just read the headline and forwarded the article without reading to see it was Onion type of article. They make no attempt at discerning the truth and just read meme and other headlines. Catchy headline will capture a zombie Republican every time.

Most people in KCMO have farming or small town backgrounds. Many people just did HS so not a lot of higher education.

What rightwing news has done is to get people frightened and paranoid. The Boogy Man is right outside their front door and they and their families are in real danger And that brings out the worst in people.

I still have hope in their innate goodness. And I may just be an optimistic fool.
