I just caught a look on their faces on MSNBC and they are either very tired or they think they're gonna lose. Ann Romney looks like she's going to cry any moment.

(81,231 posts)Missed this one, but I did see an earlier thread here that referred to "tears on the campaign" in connection with wrongney. Sheesh.
Well, it's over soon.
BUT LET'S NOT GET COMPLACENT FOR A SINGLE NANOSECOND, DEAR DUERS!!!!!!!!!!! Remember what Mad-Eye Moody told Harry Potter: "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!!!" And if I recall correctly, it was written in caps in the books, too. We can never sleep. Because the other side never does. Glad you're here. We need you. This thing isn't won yet.
Now get to work.

(20,776 posts)Even if Romney loses, he's still in for a large sum of money coming his way, from all the donations.. right? Some of that will pay bills but others will end up probably in his Swiss Bank accounts.

(58,797 posts)some of Romney's friends stand to gain financially because they either work for or have some kind of interest in the businesses supplying the Romney campaign. for example, Clear Channel is owned by Bain Capital.

(19,089 posts)Walter Mitty has failed again ..... SO many times he has tried and came up short ....
You would think they would be used to it by now .... Failure is like his middle name ... Walter Failure Mittster ....
But he is dreamer .... He dreams of tumltuous rivers of money, flowing from the poor to the rich .... He dreams of the 47%, getting cut off from their only livelihood, and withering away to the nothings that they really are (to them) ....
The infirm, stumbling in pain ...
The veteran, suffering in silence ...
The hungry, eating dirt ....
The shelterless, inundated by storms of heat and cold, exposed to their own poverty ....
As it should be ... as it should be ....
But hey - They can go to one of their 3000 mansions in one of their 10000 expensive automobiles, and count their money ....
Dont worry, Ann and Mitt - The dirty 47% wont get that ... no sir .... Your money is safely hidden in foreign lands ....

(5,810 posts)I think in that moment, she did feel the love that crowd feels for her but it will end soon enough. I just kept saying to the TV....enjoy it now, Toots, because in a few more days it will all be over. If I didn't know so much about these people that is awful, I would feel sorry for them. But I don't. I just kept thinking about the route that Mitt took to abandon every position he has ever taken. And he has engaged in a risky strategy to lie and even continue to lie when caught. That was breath taking. In addition to that, this man calls himself a "man of faith". And for the life of me, I cannot think of any faith group that advocates lying to achieve your goals. If he is guided by his faith, I would hate to think where he would take this nation.
So they are sad, but we have good reason to be glad that they will not be the President and First Lady of our country. The look on their faces said it all. No words were needed to tell the story of how this campaign will end.

(81,231 posts)I especially like this line:
This man calls himself a "man of faith". And for the life of me, I cannot think of any faith group that advocates lying to achieve your goals. If he is guided by his faith, I would hate to think where he would take this nation.
And how!!!
I can't feel terribly sorry for her overall situation because she can sob all the way to the bank if the results Tuesday night are what many of us are hoping. She gets her privacy back, and I'm sure she's always prized it. Even moreso NOW, I suspect, after the rigors and rude impositions and bright lights and annoying questions and exposure brought to you by this campaign! And with her illnesses, certainly horrible ones - no denying or diminishing that - but she will never know what it's like to live with the fear and dread that her treatment will bankrupt her family. They won't ever know what it's like to lose their home because of mountains of medical bills. They'll never know what it's like to try to figure out which spending to do - on her treatment or one of the kids' plans to go to college. She'll sink into her disabilities with the finest comforts and the best medical attention money can buy. Her odds of a long life are thus better than just about anyone's on the planet. What I'd wish for anybody facing what she's facing, physically.
He will never run again if he doesn't win this time. Mainly because her condition won't withstand it, especially adding the at least four years he'd have to wait before he could try again. He may not want to go through it again, himself, if he doesn't win this time. If he loses, it'll be the cost-benefit analysis that won't look very good, and as a businessman he would ruefully recognize what a bad investment this would turn out to be. That would not be lost on his cronies and donors and other high-roller benefactors either, and he knows it.
If he loses.
Which is not a sure thing. We may be grasping at straws. I won't stop worrying until it's called for Obama nationally AND wrongney's conceded. And, knowing this bunch, maybe not even then!

(81,231 posts)I keep hearing accounts and blogs and stories in various links that they had their own internal polling that told them all kinds of great things, even though it often conflicted with the Nate Silvers and even PPP and network and New York Times polls and other prominent newspaper polls. Maybe they got some reality-checks with the latest round of polls, such as they are after Hurricane Sandy? Maybe their own polling shows them on a downward slide? I saw here a couple of links that featured the phrase "Nevada is no longer in play." Maybe the hurricane really did snap people back to reality about what we want in a President in measurable numbers?
I'm hesitant to trust this because the proverbial fat lady hasn't sung yet and we all know how the GOP cheats and tries to cheat and always tries to game the system and tilt the playing field. I want to savor this, but I don't dare yet.
Glad you're here, from one old hippie chick to another! We need you. We all need all of us!!!! The clock is ticking and we don't have this won yet.
Now get to work.

(50,326 posts)their tone was more of one that is thanking their volunteers, supporters, etc, for their work AFTER losing an election then trying to energize the crowd.
It really was interesting. Their internal polls must be terrible, the key swing states out of reach, for this kind of an appearance/tone from the candidate and his wife.

(1,773 posts)Remember, it's quite likely that Mitt buys into the White Horse prophecy,
at least partially,
due to his raised-from-the-dead experience in France.
The election must have been a real ego-crusher for him,
more so than I think most people here might believe.
He might be done for good,
retire away in a quiet place somewhere.

(50,326 posts)If to Romney this is much more than winning then a defeat would be even more crushing than to another who is simply a politician.

(6,716 posts)but I am looking forward to it. These people thought that it was their right to occupy the White House. Their ilk have and are trying everything in their power, including voter suppression, to buy this for them. We are and will rise up on Tuesday to defeat big money.
