But so much of the former guy's reign of error was unprecedented, and the very public resignation of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff would be warranted. I would not wish such an evil choice on anyone, and I can understand General Milley's reluctance to get out over his skis on this. But as this letter hearkens back to the high ideals and great accomplishments of the nation and how the former guy has damaged the country and its international relations, it's hard to argue with. Such a high profile and damning resignation might have provided a shot of courage for others who were contemplating their role in the administration and didn't much like what they saw in the mirror.

By staying put and keeping this letter under wraps, Milley had to know that it looked like the administration was proceeding in a manner that he was okay with. It's an evil choice, but one that I wish Milley had chosen differently.

Milley received advice from many people outside the maladminstration and the consensus was that he should stay until fired. His replacement would be someone who would not resist trump's attempts to politicize the military. Milley got assurances that if he were fired, lots of people would resign and leave too big a vacuum for trump to fill with enablers.
