'truth and God'The controversial founder of Papa Johns, John Schnatter, said this weekend the company's pizza has gotten worse without his "conservative values."
During an interview with the Right Side Broadcasting Network at the the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, in Dallas, Schnatter said quality, service, and culture were what helped make Papa John's a hit.
But now, he said, Papa Johns has "lost it way," that it's "losing money," and is "down with Little Caesar's."
"We built the whole company on conservative values. Conservative ideology has two of the most critical attributes: truth and God," Schnatter said.

(1,907 posts)I had Papa Johns after a baseball game I covered last month (Im a sportswriter), and maybe its because I was hungry and it was a long, hot day, but it actually tasted better than when I had it when he was at the helm.
Has he ever thought people like me refuse to order from his company because of his values and business practices and people like me will only have it if somebody else orders it instead?

(11,760 posts)I think he was also accused of sexual harassment a few times by employees.
Tell me, was that "god" or "truth" that guided those actions?

(28,290 posts)It was all those conservative values.
I haven't tried a Pappa Johns pizza since Fascist John departed. And I don't plan on doing so, ever again. Way too many good pizza joints in my area to choose from.

(28,894 posts)It was awful. They were dirty, stole parking from residents for their delivery drivers and littered everywhere. Horrible pizza notwithstanding.

(15,077 posts)I remember occasionally going out for a quick lunch in Manhattan. There were pizza parlors with windows on the street where you could buy it by the slice.
Wearing a suit and trying to eat a slice of pizza on a NY street is hard. You've got to bend over with every bite to keep the olive oil from dripping on you. And, of course, you've got to fold that thin crust holding all that deliciousness, before that first bite.
I don't even know the names of the places where I'd get a slice or two. But it wasn't one of those chain places that make thick bread, cover it with with tomato sauce and cheese, and call it "pizza."
This will probably piss off a lot of DUers, but I've never had a real slice of pizza outside NYC. That city should really patent the word "pizza," so that other places, worldwide, cannot claim that that's what they're selling.

I'll resist the urge to be parochial.
I had really good pizza in Firenze, too. In Roma, not so much.

As for him, it must suck to be a disgruntled former president of the company. Get over it dude. Your attitude is almost as bad as your politics.

(5,559 posts)I'm in nowhere Pennsylvania and I can still choose from four or five different local places that make a damn good pizza.
The only chain pizza I'd even consider under any circumstance is Little Caesars, because at least it's priced appropriately for mediocrity.
