(31,156 posts)I think he must be getting pretty tired of that role since he cant be a little potentate. The Senate Democrats kind of tricks on him this week and he had a hissy fit

(7,290 posts)If not, I remember he had similar discoloration maybe a year ago.
His lips certainly look cyanotic (unless he'd been guzzling blueberry juice or red wine).

(54,507 posts)If the hands are not the result of some injury while repairing something in his garage, then they indicate something far more serious. If it's a blood disorder, or the result of some kind of treatment, he really owes his constituency an explanation, or at lest a progress report. Not that one will be forthcoming, but if that gets any worse, he may soon no longer have the option.

(54,507 posts)If he retires, either the seat is temporarily vacant, or Andy Beshear appoints a Democratic caretaker, unless Kentucky law makes other provisions (I am not familiar with the Kentucky rules for that).
He also has innumerable connections, even if he is no longer Majority Leader, and still wields considerable clout. I'm sure Trent Lott has laid out for him what it means to go from "clout to out" in a matter of hours. Unless his physicians tell him he has no choice, I don't see him leaving, unless there is some as-yet-unknown legal scandal threatening to surface. McTurtle has seen his colleague Joe Biden, about the same age, just glowing in triumph in the White House. I don't see him envisioning sitting in a rocking chair watching thoroughbreds trot at some race track in bluegrass country as a desirable alternative unless he is forced to.

(54,507 posts)If he's having health issues, all his negotiating skills can't get him out of that one. If it's his time, then it's his time. He certainly won't want to be remembered as ending his long career by being dragged from the Senate floor after collapsing and babbling incoherently. The last legacy he would want to leave would be the inevitable jokes about the level of Republican discourse during Senate debates being unchanged, etc. etc.

(22,242 posts)I think he'll drop dead in the job. His protege, District Atty, Daniel Cameron, says he's running for governor. That's who he's been grooming for his job. I don't think Cameron could win either job.
Very hopeful Charles Booker can beat Rand Paul in Nov.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/08/politics/biden-kentucky-trip-flooding/index.html
President Joe Biden visited eastern Kentucky on Monday and pledged the full support of the federal government as the commonwealth begins rebuilding following flooding that killed more than three dozen people and caused catastrophic damage.
The President was joined by Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear and received a briefing on the ongoing response efforts to the flooding.
"It's going to take a while to get through this but I promise you we're not leaving. The federal government and all its resources -- we're not leaving," Biden said during the briefing, which took place at an elementary school in Lost Creek. "As long as it takes, we're going to be here."

(9,291 posts)were together today in the flood area. They talked to the people, and everyone Ive seen on local people said , it was nice to make contact with the president and look him in the eyes to tell him what were going through. Those poor people are acting thankful for him taking the time.
If my local news clips mean anything, its was successful and the people appreciates it.

(6,829 posts)Dems should just pull a fast one and somebody should switch parties so Beshear can technically fulfill the seat with an R, then that person can switch back once theyre installed.
But Dems dont play dirty politics so that will never happen
