(33,016 posts)After 1975, the Vietnam War was over. Returning Vets couldn't find jobs, because American factories started laying people off, shutting down, and moving to Mexico. Or the Philippines. Or Taiwan. Or Korea. Americans who had jobs were scared of losing them, and eventually many of them did.
General Electric started it when they shut down their US factories for making light bulbs that cost about $.25 each to make. They went to Mexico and produced the same lightbulbs for $.05 each. They got an immediate 400% profit and it was all the savings of labor cost. But did the price of light bulbs ever go down in our grocery stores? Oh hell no! We still paid the same retail price of $1.00 each that we always paid for GE lightbulbs.
Other American manufacturers saw what GE did and they all followed suit. Reagan came in in 1980 and he made it easy for corporations to close down their factories and lay everyone off. It snowballed during Reagan's 8 years until there was almost nothing left.
Repukes enabled all of this, and profited by it. There was no religion involved, just their worship of profits.

Read all 8 to get the "plan" in detail.
A bit more recent than Reagan, in fact a takeover of the GOP by Russian influence and money.
This is all a Russian plan. Started years ago.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
