Wyoming state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican who has announced his intention to challenge Rep. Liz Cheney (R) for her House seat, acknowledged Thursday that he had impregnated a 14-year-old and had a relationship with her when he was 18, comparing the teen intimacy to Shakespeares tragedy Romeo and Juliet.
Bouchard first acknowledged that he impregnated a girl when he was 18 in a Facebook Live video, but did not initially disclose her age. He confirmed to the Casper Star-Tribune that the girl was 14 and the couple, who were both living in Florida, later married when she was 15 and he was 19.
The couple divorced after three years of marriage. Then, about two years later, the woman killed herself when she was 20, Bouchard said to the Star-Tribune. The paper found that a woman had been buried in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1990. The lawmaker said the woman had problems in another relationship.
....
Bouchard choked back tears in mentioning the couples son, whom he said he continued to raise after the woman died. He noted that hes made some wrong choices and that hes almost become my estranged son.
Some of the things that hes got going on his life, I certainly dont approve of them. But Im not going to abandon him, he said in the video. I still love him. Just like when he was born.

I suspect the narrative grew out of the Star-Tribune's reveal of his late wife's grave in Jacksonville, Florida. How can I build a narrative out of this that isn't too, too repugnant? Ahhhh . . . take a little license with Shakespeare; everyone enjoys a good love story.
This current crop of GOPers are truly craven.

(10,159 posts)Romeo, like many of the male lovers in Shakespeare, is a feckless idiot. Hey - maybe this guy is like him after all!

(16,129 posts)sounds like he raped her, she was forced to marry him, and then, at 20, had enough and felt there was no other escape.
I've actually heard this story before with different people involved. It happens more than we think.
The question is, at 18 why was he having sex with a 14 year old girl?
