(1,070 posts)Thanks demmiblue! As an artist I tried colorizing some of my black and whites and it was a lot of fun but seeing history come to us in living color is a whole different story. What a great job to have!

(47,555 posts)about eight years. When I ran out of family photos, I started colorizing historical figures of all kinds. It is a fascinating hobby watching people from the past come alive. They become more real when you add color.

(90,766 posts)Id love the backstory, too. I have a wonderful old book from 1909 called The Woman and the Car by Dorothy Levitt. In her photos shes every inch the Edwardian lady, but she raced cars and gives explicit instructions on how to do ones own repairs on the road (tip: bring coveralls).
On the whole, I think its a matter of having the means and interest, and being unafraid of periodically getting grease under your nails.

I actually met Ron Smallworth, as I worked with the police auxiliary here back then. But had no idea what a dangerous assignment he had.
