Which, at the very least, means he's more pragmatic than many who keep demanding a ban.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/07/politics/matthew-mcconaughey-white-house/index.html

He said there was now a "window of opportunity" to enact meaningful gun legislation reform and called for universal background checks, raising the minimum wage for purchasing an AR-15 to 21, a waiting period for purchasing AR-15s and the implementation of red flag laws.

"These are reasonable, practical, tactical regulations to our nation, states, communities, schools and homes. Responsible gun owners are fed up with the Second Amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals. These regulations are not a step back -- they're a step forward for a civil society and, and the Second Amendment," McConaughey said in a roughly 20-minute speech from the podium.

Every time we double down on an AWB it leads Republicans to resist all restrictions.

Higher age requirements on all semi-autos, res flag laws, and simple universal background checks might save more lives.

Saying that we would not ban guns per se but would limit magazine capacity to 20 is easier to achieve.

Thats what meant by pragmatic.

Had me in tears.

And yet one of the fucking reporters yelled out, were you just grandstanding up there? Whoever that was doesn't deserve a spot in that press room. Doesn't deserve to call himself a journalist. That man, and so many others like him, are fantastically vile. They have no compassion. No empathy. No humanity. No decency. How could you listen to what McConaughey said and doubt his sincerity, his compassion. Who could listen to that and accuse him of grandstanding? That was disgusting. How could you look at those green converse sneakers and not be devastated?

envision him as a president. i envisioned him as a son of Uvalde that was fed up with gun violence and using his Uvalde history and his skills as a performer, to make a plea for safer gun laws. We should welcome him to the cause.

His ability to make those children special to all of us can only help.

I watched the whole speech and I felt he was being sincere and honest. He and I don’t agree on everything. I support a complete assault weapons ban for the civilian population. However he seems to support a strong background check, real red flag laws and an age requirement. I won’t back off a ban but what he suggests is better than nothing. Strong words from a guy out of Texas.
