As Romney Supporters Showed up Empty Handed... Campaign gave then Canned goods to donate so they look like they actually give a shit
As the East Coast and parts of Ohio struggled to regroup in the devastating wake of Superstorm Sandy, the Romney campaign hastily transformed a scheduled victory rally in Dayton, Ohio into a non-political storm relief event on Tuesday. According to BuzzFeed, the campaign encouraged supporters to bring hurricane relief supplies and deliver the bags of canned goods, packages of diapers, and cases of water bottles to the candidate, who would be perched behind a table along with a slew of volunteers and his Ohio right-hand man, Senator Rob Portman.
Just to be safe, campaign aides reportedly spent $5,000 at a local Wal-Mart on supplies that could be put on display. When supporters arrived at the rally-turned-relief event, they were treated to the 10-minute video about Romneys life, which was first unveiled at the RNC. The event ended with supporters lined up to hand over supplies and meet Romney. But according to BuzzFeed, this donation process was also staged:
Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, What if we dropped off our donations up front?
The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. Just grab something, he said.
Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their donations to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest Thank you.
The Red Cross, meanwhile, said they were grateful for the supplies but encouraged people to donate money or blood as a more efficient way to help the relief effort.
I Wonder How Much Blood and Money The Romney Campaign Donated?

(17,505 posts)Well, it IS Halloween.
Of course this just goes to show President Romney, like President Bush, would not run anything. He will be, like Bush and Reagan before him, a cardboard cutout president. He'll be out raising money while somebody, who was not elected, runs things from an undisclosed location.

(21,925 posts)Yesterday the news informed us that the "relief rally" took place at the same time and place that the previous political rally was to occur. The same speakers and guests came who were scheduled to come to the political rally. The campaign ran the same pro-Romney political film at the "relief rally" that they always run for the audience at his political rallies. Romney promotional political merchandise was sold at the "relief rally" that you find at political rallies. It was already faked to the max.
But now we find out the cans of food were props at the "relief rally" as well, provided by the campaign. Incredible.

(19,458 posts)Will the MSM report this travesty??? Or perhaps, they are as sickened as we are by the absolute lack of character and morality in that bunch and will work in other ways to expose His Highness?
ETA: Far be it from the Smarmy One to actually DONATE all that money they spent on that charade, to the Red Cross, and cancel the event.
On the bright side... he did NOT attract a whole hell of a lot of people. Tiny crowd one week before the election? I'll be generous to say there was 1,000 people there, but I may be exaggerating to be kind. The MSM and the corporate pollsters are screwing with people's minds.. no fucking way he's that close in the polls.
Beginning to think that the deflated Mitt Blimp was an omen. His campaign is in shambles.. a total free fall.

(87 posts)Just read an entry in Maddow Blog talking about the last six commercials Romney put out and how each one is based on a complete fabrication. Even for American Politics this is something that has never been seen before. I don't know if this strategy is working only because Obama is black or if this is just the final nail in American Political discourse. When you have all conservatives watching Fox and all liberals watching MSNBC each side has access to only one stream of information. I cannot watch CNN or FOX so the only way I can watch news is if I am watching MSNBC because the past 12 years have so angered and polarized me that I will vote for six feet of stacked shit with a tie on before I vote for a Republican. I used to watch C-SPAN and when you actually listen to a conservative argument (not partisan, conservative) sometimes a good point can be made. Especially when it is a civil discussion where each side gets ample time to express, flesh out and rebut each others points. With people living in information bubbles liars can flood the airwaves with whatever they want and it will just blend into the chatter.

(17,505 posts)MSNBC is not Fox... nowhere near it. It is not "skewed" to the left. It has a few left leaning shows. You can actually do alright with MSNBC.
Liberal1975
(87 posts)I agree that MSNBC is actual news while Fox is a propaganda machine. But it has 6 solid hours of liberal opinion shows every night, not a few. Look, I'm not trying to equate one with the other I watch MSNBC every night and I sometimes feel like maybe I don't have a clear picture of what is going on since the shows I watch have an on obvious spin for Obama. And before you jump down my throat I am fully aware that what they report is actually true whereas Fox is just a factory of bullshit but I still come away with a feeling that I just watched six hours of programming that I mostly agree with, that made feel super positive about our chances in this thing etc, etc. That essntially the Fox viewer and I live in completely different worlds and the information I am getting is not information they are getting. When there is no baseline for reality no then lying is something you can get away with. Seven years from now are we still going to have Fox viewers who believe that the work requirement was watered down under Obama, that he doubled the deficit, that he is actually a Muslim Marxsist hell bent on the destruction of America? Probably. These are the same people who still believe that WMDs were found in Iraq. When there is no common ground on the FACTS any longer then what is left? Just two streams of contradicting information and a beleaguered electorate who throws up their hands and says "Fuck it. They all lie." and electorate that is more polarized and a country that cannot make decisions for its common good together. "A House divided against itself cannot stand" and I'm the same way now. In 2000 I might have voted for McCain (before he proved his "Maverick" independence was a lie) over Gore, now I won't vote for any Republican for any reason under any circumstance. Ever. It just seems that's not healthy for our democracy that I feel this way and that conservatives feel exactly the same way in reverse. But I apologize it was not my intent to equate Rachel Maddow who deals in truth (albeit with an obvious preference towards liberalism) to Glenn Beck who just lies through his teeth. Just trying to understand how a politician can lie as much as Romney has and still have a chance. Either it's because America's enduring racism won't allow this race to be anything but close or political dialogue has disappeared, since I'm not listening to their bullshit and they're not listening to my facts.

(65,340 posts)Of course, the campaign could have simply donated a $5,000 check, which would have been much more useful, but that wouldn't make a "effective" a picture for media dissemination, and since we all know he is very wealthy, $5,000 would look pretty chintzy.

(4,982 posts)Romney could have just written a $10 million check to the Red Cross and gone home but did this instead. Tells you a lot about Romney. The biggest thing it tells you right now is that he should NOT be President.

(16,993 posts)Let's hold a "relief rally" in a location many miles away from where the relief is actually needed, and then let's dump in on the American Red Cross so they can figure out how to get all the stuff where it's needed!
Of course, this has diverted the Red Cross from doing what they know they need to do, as the Red Cross doesn't normally accept donations of this kind. They prefer cash donations so they can use the money to buy things through established channels and get it to the folks who need it quickly and efficiently.
What a joke this man is. Everything about him is phony: his concern for others, his smile, his policies, everything is a sham. Back in the Wild West days, the Sheriff would have told Rmoney to get out of town and never come back.
