Bringing up president Clinton in a couple threads reminded me of my day with the Big Dawg...

Well, I was part of the entourage on one of his visits to Cleveland in 1996.

He was giving a policy speech and then he was going to a fund raiser. It was cool. I volunteered to be a driver and I was in the motorcade which was way cool too.

So I had three of the pool reporters in my car and we went into the hall where he was speaking and I got picture of him with me. Not a great picture, but I have this dumb ass look on my face.

Anyway, we all got into the cars and drove on out to the fundraiser. Funny, if I hadn't volunteered to be a part of the motorcade, I would have been inside the fundraiser. At that time I was the treasurer of the party here in Cleveland.

After the show, the guys came out and said watch this....

A crowd of about 200-225 people had gathered across the street in front of a CVS drugstore.

The big dawg bolted across the street, much to the consternation of the Secret Service. The guys said he will shake hands and say hello to every person on the other side of the line. No election coming up, no political gain he just waded right into that crowd and came alive.

It was a master showing all of us what a true politician will do.

After that, I jumped into my campaign and made it a point to go right up to the people and talk to them, look them in the eye and ask how they were. The most important thing was no matter what they say, keep a smile on your face.

That man is once in a lifetime politician.

They like to say Reagan was like that but he wasn't all that comfortable with people. He was an actor and played a part. Clinton is a political animal and will go down in history as one of the most successful politician in this country's history.

There is no one like Clinton. A man of the people, for the people and by the people.

1. What a great story!

I can just see him, charging across the street, grinning and glad-handing all those astonished people...

He is amazing, a real force for good, for us, for our country...

3. I love Clinton too but really wish he hadn't signed NAFTA & repeal of

Glass-Stegal. Oh well, nobody's perfect.

5. It's more about the way politics was back then and how he dominated everything..

Also, beating back almost all of his foes who went down in disgrace or resigned under the deep shadow of scandal.

4. Went to the Inaugural Ball at Union Station.

The excitement was phenomenal. I'll never forget that. D.C. had changed the day he was elected, and it was a good thing!
