SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) Following the Bay to Breakers footrace, a candidate for United States Senate says he was the victim of an apparent smash and grab vehicle burglary in San Francisco, losing thousands in damages and stolen items.
Mark Meuser, a Constitutional and Election Law Attorney vying to join the senate as a Republican representative of California, was perusing North Beach Sunday after checking out of his hotel. He parked his car in front of a restaurant under a street light, but returned after dinner to find the window of his rental SUV was broken and three backpacks had been stolen.
One of the backpacks had two laptops inside. Meuser told KCBS Radio he was mad, but more broadly he said its sad that the government cant protect the property rights of individuals.
"I've had enough friends that had issues in San Francisco that its like, why even bother calling the police?" Meuser asked. "It's not like they can do anything about it."
Smash and grab crimes, which are notorious in San Francisco, have escalated in recent years. In a video posted to Twitter, Meuser blamed the increase in crime on the "progressive liberal agenda that is handcuffing police and letting criminals go free."

(4,150 posts)You don't leave anything in a car that you don't want to have stolen or have your window broken for.
San Francisco is not as dangerous as many other cities, and most of the problems are petty theft. We don't have a lot of violent crime, although Fuxx News likes to make it look that way.

I live in North Bay and went into the city two weekends ago for dinner and light Castro bar hopping. I drove to BART and took that in. Not taking my car there, nope, no way.
Be interesting to see what comes of Boudin's recall.

(451 posts)When I lived in Phoenix, I lost two cars to theft and had a stereo stolen from another one. When my stripped car was found in a farmer's field on the edge of the city, it had a few of the thief's tools in it and the cops wouldn't even check for prints.
Also, there were lots of drive-by shootings in the city. My best friend was shot in the heart and died while trying to break up a fight. And to top it off, a human head turned up in a canal one block from my house. I didn't even live in a bad neighborhood. I could go on and on.
I've lived in SF for seven years, and I have to laugh when I hear people complain about the level of crime here. Oh yeah, I learned years ago you don't leave anything of value in plain sight when you park your car in ANY city.
