'The Late Show' Pauses Taping New Episodes as Colbert Experiences Possible COVID-19 "Recurrence"

The official Twitter account for the show tweeted the update on Monday, noting that the CBS late-night host will be isolating for a few additional days.

The Late Show is hitting pause again, while host Stephen Colbert deals with what may be a “recurrence” of COVID-19.

The official Twitter account for the CBS show tweeted on Monday: “Stephen is experiencing symptoms consistent with a recurrence of COVID. Out of an abundance of caution for his staff, guests, and audience, he will be isolating for a few additional days. The Late Show will not be taping new episodes until further notice.”

Colbert first tested positive for the virus on April 21 and had to cancel his upcoming episode. “Basically, I’m feeling fine — grateful to be vaxxed and boosted,” he wrote on social media at the time. A few days later, he updated viewers that his symptoms included a “serious head cold” and that his experience with the virus was “not fun.”

Days later, Colbert’s band leader Jon Batiste tested positive and was absent from The Late Show and had to cancel the premiere of American Symphony at Carnegie Hall.

Additional late-night hosts to have recently tested positive for the virus include James Corden, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel, who recruited Mike Birbiglia to fill-in for him while he was recovering. Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie tested positive for the second time on Friday and had to isolate over the Mother’s Day weekend.

I was freezing.. blankets electric blanket heating pad.. I could not get warm.. symptoms lasted 5 days.. I understand reoccurrence is not that uncommon..

Here in New York, I know 3 friends who are experiencing Covid right now - one has been pretty sick, another just quarantined and the third felt awful for only three days. I hope that you're over it for good now. I "only" had the flu and I felt bad enough - and I also got a flu shot. *sigh*

Which was a month ago, today. I went out like I normally do for the first time yesterday. I really hope that you're over it for good - and I'm hoping the same for myself.

I stopped watching him when he started spouting that Republicanistic, ego-centric, don't-inconvenience-me crap.

I think it's going to "take care" of most of those who aren't vaxxed and boosted.

Keep wearing those N95 masks, folks!

My son lives there and tested positive with his 2nd bout just today. Had his first bout last yr., so it has to be another strain of Covid.

Northeastern New York - where I live - was the hardest hit in the country and now it's hitting New York City. I also read that New York should be reinstating precautions - a return to masks and mandatory distancing - but it's been reinstated and rescinded so many times that people are apt to rebel. They got rid of them way too soon, especially during the cold months when people were inside.

I am so very sorry to hear about your son, I hope that he recovers quickly. I currently know 3 friends who got it for the first time, one only had to quarantine, the second said it only lasted a few days and the third was quite unwell, but received the anti-Covid pills that are available now. I hope that they are available for your son if he is unwell.
