Porn ads and fake medical ads drove me to distraction. Plus popups that made me exit du every time to stop them.
Now all is lollipops and rainbows.

That's what cookies do and how some ads are targeted.

(32,086 posts)Installing an ad-blocker extension, such as Adblocker Ultimate or Adblock Plus, should also help. Ad blockers can be a pain when reading newspaper articles and the like, but it's not difficult to turn them off for specific sites.

It doesn't intrude into anything you're doing.
