sounds suuuuuuper Squirrely to me..... this has 'INSIDE DEAL' written all over it...
The guy in the interview could not give one good reason why the paper endorsed Romney.... when pressed by the interviewer, the DMR Guy got nervous and would not answer the interviewers question about the Endorsement really comming from Laura Hollingsworth and not the 'five person editorial board'

Gannett is #8 on a list of most powerful media Corporations... and we all know the depth of the Rmoney/Bain media connections: http://shaybo-therisingtide.blogspot.com/2012/10/romneys-bain-capital-co-owns-clear.html

(17,863 posts)and such, but isn't one of them bulletproof (close to retirement) enough to come clean. Anyone reading the editorial would have to shake their head. It is like a judicial decision that was switched at the last minute. All the points support an Obama endorsement, but it says because Romney will work in a bipartisan manner to address economic issues - he is the superior choice. They missed all those vetos when he was Governor apparently.

(17,863 posts)so I don't know if there would be a big financial impact. That is why I proposed some old warhorse who has been in the trenches for forty years. I don't know the make up of the editorial board so I am just speculating.
You are right about being fired though.

(19,458 posts)The "editorial board" after being taken over by a corporation, was not the editorial staff anymore, as it used to be. Yes, there were some editors in there, BUT they had a biz manager, GM, and Publisher in the group. The editorial staff did NOT want to endorse Bush. Not one of them. The biz people did.. and the Publisher made the final call, against the wishes of the Board.
The newspapers were the last bastion of Free Press, but now are corporate controlled. The same people that own DMR own USA Today. Tells you a lot right there.
I KNEW when I read that weird endorsement, and they mentioned the argument in the board meeting, I KNEW that the thinkers were overruled by the corporate suit. Happens all the time...

(99 posts)It is Gannett...in fact, where I live...Nashville, TN....our paper 'The Tennessean' endorsed Romney as well, actually, in very similar tones as the Des Moines Register.
I wrote the editor and sent emails and yet the could never tell me specifically WHY he was endorsed when The Tennessean has endorsed every Dem for President since Ronald Reagan.
Their endorsement of Romney was actually a major criticism, and it almost sounded like they were so sorry for having to do it, but again, never ONCE stated clearly as to WHY.
But, as i said earlier and others have already said, Gannett Birds of a Feather must might Flock Together...here is a link to my hometown paper's endorsement of the flip flopper, if anyone is interested.

(34,655 posts)not that a republican can't see with their own eyes what's really going on in the economy created by republican policies of the past, and with the current Republican Congress that refused to help. That in fact made it a priority to keep things as bad as possible. (Mitch mcconnel's admission of his first priority: getting rid of Obama)
