Of course Belarus is allowing russian troops to use their country as a staging ground and part of the invasion.

But none of the material supplied in the OP says anything about Belarus.

Many of these were sent in for "War Games." Now they are in hell.

I am glad this didn't happen to me today as a Russian or to me in 1969 as a U.S. citizen. I doubt at 18 I would have felt empowered to make a choice other than just going if drafted.

There is plenty of mercy to go around for everyone. No one comes out of this better.

The Trump effect and it's lingering residue has certainly left me with a lots of anger and little patience. My attempts to divide the deceived from the deceivers is perhaps wishful thinking on my part. Jan 6th was happily carried out by the deceived. They are not without guilt.

Good discussion! Thanks!

Mar 2022

But that implication was not my intention.

We are all having our empathy tested in many ways, and fortunately we have DU as a place where we can express all kinds of feelings, even the negative ones.

However, Chin, I choose to believe that were you in a war zone, in charge of the disposition of POWs, even having experienced the most awful of war crimes committed by those prisoners and their leadership, you would NOT retaliate by committing a war crime and slaughtering them, and thus further perpetuating the march of devolution.

I believe that, no matter how much fully justified anger and frustration you express here. I do not think you are an advocate of war crimes or unaware of the sad truth that an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

I have lately had my nose rubbed in some pretty terrible unintended consequences of emotionally-generated hyperbole, and I tend to want to add some guard rails for others, which is both futile and counter-productive. I'm sorry it rebounded on you.

Please accept my apology.

regretfully,
Bright

As a veteran, I have no bleeding heart for an enemy that brutally slaughters my brothers and sisters. What they have done to the women, children and completely destroy the cities to ashes, F em all. I think a saw here yesterday, like 7 hospitals have been flattened. Those Russian thugs need eliminated, to never go home and ready themselves for the next invasion. No consequences for Putin et al, is why this murderous attack is happening and allowed to continue. I may be asked to give up my liberal card for feeling this way, but unless they have been a soldier in a war, judge not. If the enemy was Muslim or darker skinned, very few people would say let em go home to momma. They have destroyed millions of lives and cities, women children and seniors. Innocent all. Justice to match the crime. The next Putin and this one must be held to account by its citizens or the brutality and willingness to launch nukes will keep happening. They citizens of Russia need to be so damn pissed, Putin will be taken out, one way or another. Worst way is my choice.

of dying like Gaddafi. Gadaffi vowed to "purify" Libya, just like Putin is doing right now.

The possibility of the Russian people dragging him into the street, beating him bloody and senseless, and ultimately being killed by the people he's ruled for the past 20+ years scares the crap out of him.

He's said to have watched the tape of Gaddafi being brutalized and killed over and over again. He couldn't believe that the people turned on him. Just like Gaddafi, he's ruined his people's lives, and I hope the don't forget it. I don't see how they could.

46. Like Trump....
Wed Mar 23, 2022, 09:25 PM
Mar 2022

it's all about his ego. He wanted to go down in history as Russia's greatest leader. He wanted to reunite all of the former Soviet States once again and restore it's place as a superpower.

Again like Trump, he's a legend in his own mind. Those former states don't want to be reunited in another iteration of the USSR. They want democracy and freedom.

What worries me is if he decides that his "dream" isn't going to come together, he says screw it and decides to end history for everyone. He lets all of his nukes fly and gives everyone the finger. Is he that crazy? I don't think anyone knows for sure.

Putin is like Trump in this respect (and many others) that he doesn't like soldiers who are captured. He prefers them to fight to their deaths. He'd have no qualms whatsoever of killing them to get to Ukrainian civilians.
