In the little town where my mom grew up a "mixed marriage" was when a good German girl married a Swede or a Norseman. But at least the Swedes and Norwegians were Lutherans, too, so it wasn't a total deal breaker.

I hadn't thought of the election in those terms, but that sort of says it. Obama -- a lush landscape, flowing streams, beautiful birds. Happy days really are here again. Palin -- freezing temperatures and a bleak and colorless landscape in vast areas.

He used to use England under Thatcher to deflect questions as to why his policies weren't working. He'd claim they worked great over there and we all had to be patient because we had just gone through the sheer hell of Jimmy Carter who had destroyed the economy. Forget about Ford and his "WIN" buttons, the economy was GREAT under Republicans and nosedives under Democrats.

Same thing Mitt is planning on doing if he gets in.
