One event I like to remember is the following:
I don't remember their names, but one of our celebrity skiers was going to retire following this Olympics, and everyone was talking to her, talking about it and all. She was entered in several events.
Well, this one event was downhill skiing, you know, where you have to ski through the gates. There was a snow boarder who entered for a lark. She did not train for downhill skiing, but she knew how to do it.
So, she does her last run, and it is fantastic. She ended up winning gold. She did not expect to win, so it was almost an afterthought for her to look up at the scores. She beat even the Olympic champion downhill skier.
Later, the press was interviewing the retiring Olympian, who had an event scheduled, and they were inquiring as to how she felt about her chances to win. And, she said something like, "Yeah, I don't think there are any snow boarders entered."
Hahaha!! Oh, that was so funny! It was sweet and memorable. I don't have a clip of it, but I remember that joke.

That snowboarder/skier is good. Ester Ledecka, from the Czech Republic.

(7,165 posts)I think we have a swimmer that wins everything with the last name Ledecka, or very similar. I kinda remember that.
I think you'd have to be pretty good to win in the Olympics. But, I have this memory of her not really paying attention to the scores because she did not expect to win.
It was great!

(7,165 posts)Didn't watch any this year, but have been running across reports and also following the drug scandal. I love Tara and Johnny very much, and saw a little bit of them online, too.
My main man, Johannes Klaebo, won two gold, one silver, and one bronze. His Olympics started off rocky, then he sucked it up, got his head straight, and proceeded to win. He's only 25 years old. He is an excellent example of an Olympian. (Plus, he's really handsome.) I wish I could do as well.
I remember watching Ledecky in Rio. Amazing swimmer. She's six feet tall, beautiful, and almost unbeatable. Her career from start to whenever finish will probably never be equaled.

It was the Super-G. Since she snowboards, it leaves less time for ski training and traveling to competitions. It wasn't a lark, she's on the tour and qualified to compete.
She competed again this year. Gold in her snowcross event, then 8?th in Super-G, not so well in Downhill, and 4th in the Combined.
