(1,191 posts)Rooting for Putin. I went to my Aunt's funeral last weekend. My cousin and several others were discussing the situation with Ukraine. They believe Putin should be allowed to do as he pleases, and America and President Biden should let him go.
Cousin was in the Army for 16 years. Now works for a defense contractor. He left the Army because of a DUI charge. That prevented any further advancement in rank. He is a Trump humper through and through.

(10,905 posts)The Former Guy certainly sides with Putin and Fox News has been pumping out pro-Putin stories from the start. The chaos we're experiencing now fits the pattern of churning disinformation and misinformation as a rally point for the True Believers and serves as a distraction as the threat of war increases.
When you see tee-shirts and other items emblazoned with:
I'd Rather Be Russian Than Democrat
I think we can solidly say the propaganda has worked with a segment of the American population. Add that to the dedicated audience Tucker Carlson has despite his seditious howling for all things Putin.
So yes, the Trumphumpers will be on Putin's side against their own countrymen and troops. And perhaps then, the rest of America will be thoroughly repulsed and take seriously what is happening inside our own borders.

(2,044 posts)got caught up in the Fox News, right-wing media propaganda machine the same way their folks back home did, but that the higher-up, more experienced, better educated commissioned career officers see Putin for the threat to America that he is and Trump for the Russian agent that he is.
The higher-level generals, admirals, and so on undoubtedly realize that any country with hundreds of nuclear missiles aimed at the United States is no friend of our country.
And if you have ever been in the military, you know that the lower-level service members are trained to do EXACTLY what their higher-ups tell them to do. So I don't see the Trumpies siding with Putin in actual combat, even if they might secretly want to.
Of course, if the right-wing has succeeded in poisoning the minds of the higher-ups in the military, we are in deep doo-doo.

(21,627 posts)the propaganda originates from the Federalist Society. It funnels dark money from American oligarchs that has been used to promote critical race theory and used to pass anti-voter laws in the states.
Just an aside; FBI director Chris Wray is a member of the Federalist Society, one of his classmates in law school was Brett Kavanaugh. During Boofer boy's confirmation the FBO received 4,500 complaints about Kavanaugh's sexual assaults, the FBI investigated 10 of them.
As another aside, it is not known whether Merrick Garland is a member of the Federalist Society but he did moderate 10 of their events.
Being a moderator doesn't prove anything, so I'm told.

(2,044 posts)oligarchs and their dark money that is screwing them over. But these are abstractions to them. It's so much easier for them to be persuaded to hate the innocent people that they actually come into contact with in their daily lives (immigrants, Jewish and Muslim people, minorities, Democrats, strong, smart women in politics, Joe and Kamala . . .).

"If the troops weren't there, Putin wouldn't have been tempted to attack them. Look at what they were wearing. Full body armor? They were asking for it."
