Are we sheep?

Ravaging wolves, (aka; Republicans), are focused on taking over our government at all levels, from local school boards, to city halls, to state legislatures, all the way up to the House, the Senate and the presidency. (Not to mention the Supreme Court.) And they're doing pretty damn well.

And we are ...? I'm really not sure what we're doing to stop them and save our democracy. People like Stacey Abrams, and too few others like her, are out there on the front lines fighting fascism up close and personal. But what are our leaders at the local, state and federal levels doing to save our country from the onslaught of the barbarians? The more I try to grasp how the entire Democratic Party, including each of us, are fighting the Republican assault on our freedoms, the less I see any coordinated, effective response/defense/counter attack.

Back in another lifetime, I was drafted into the military. Basically, I was a number on a piece of paper that we'd show our global enemies to deter them from attacking us or our allies. So I guess, in some infinitesimal way, I was defending democracy. Today, I am a keyboard warrior. I make an occasional donation. I sign an occasional (meaningless) petition. And I am a card-carrying member of the ACLU. But I'm living with the reality that what I'm doing is not nearly enough. I feel like just one more woolly member of a herd of sheep.

We have deadly enemies in the streets, spewing their hatreds and their belief in fascism, waving Trump, Confederate, and Nazi flags, and claiming that they are the only "Real Americans." And on January 6th, 2021, these "Real Americans" tried to steal our country from us, in public, on TV, under the leadership of a madman and his cohorts. So now we're holding hearings, Merrick Garland and the DOJ are doing, ... whatever it is they're doing, and many of the rest of us are watching the clock count down to the next election. And at this moment, the outcome of next November doesn't look very promising.

So what do you think? What is it we aren't doing that we should be doing? How can we stop this ruthless, bloodthirsty attack on our country and all of our freedoms? Is democracy going to be crushed under the boots of fascists? I have little confidence that we are willing to do whatever is necessary to save ourselves. But are we really going to allow our domestic enemies proclaim themselves to be our owners? Or are we sheep?

And be prepared for the possibility of an (attempted?) fascist takeover. How you choose to fight that is ultimately up to you.

of them. Stalin tried that.

The problem isn't simply rightwingnuts. It is population that is incapable of seeing them for what they are.

We have slowly grown from a population that feeds on warfare like ancient Mongols, but it has been far too slow,

We lack strong, charismatic leaders. And it's very tough to lead from the bottom.

If there were a reasonable way to battle this tide of shit that is threatening to drown us all, we'd be doing it. So I guess we're going to have to resort to unreasonable methods. In the 20th Century, America saved the world from fascism. Now, the fascism is homegrown and we must do whatever is necessary to save ourselves from it.
