BrooklynDad is one of the best twitters!! but it is true-so much horrible news is coming out about the planning of Jan 6 that we risk becoming numb to it.

The problem with the endless stream of treason is that by the time you hear that trump wanted to use the military to seize voting machines, you're numb.
DON'T LET IT BE NORMAL.

(989 posts)Instead of running stories on these incredible revelations, the media will continue to focus on the issues that they can use to bash Biden and the Democrats, such as inflation, COVID-19, and Ukraine.

(8,893 posts)That is exactly why a mass of information is released on Friday afternoons. It is intentional. They know there is a three day news cycle, no matter how enormous the information is.......and by Monday, the incredibly Major news story is like last weeks mashed potatoes sitting in their fridge.....

(35,825 posts)My reaction is the same as ShazzieB's. I've always liked to watch crime stories, but this is something else altogether. This is a national drama and a national crime story. It involves death, high stakes swindling, lies, egos gone wild, and cult behavior. An entire governmental system is at stake, a form of government that is historically very difficult to pull off and which is very fragile. That it is so tenuous is what makes it so fraught with suspense.
It has its villains but it also has its heroes. One of its heroes is a Constitutional scholar who suffered a deeply tragic loss but who has carried on with his responsibilities because of his belief in a system that allows everyone a chance to participate. Another hero is a former prosecutor who successfully conducted a high stakes espionage case. He is exemplary for his evenhandedness, his candor and his honesty.
Now we are finding out that this system of government was even closer to falling than had previously been thought. Trump had an executive order drafted to seize voting machines across the country. Such an act of desperation would have thrust this nation into uncharted territory, leaving it vulnerable and without a leader in a world with unscrupulous evildoers like Putin.
And all this is at the hands of a buffoon who is not known for his intelligence.
Numb? I can understand the reaction, but it's not mine. My adrenaline kicks into high gear at every revelation.

(32,884 posts)This is clever and funny but some faces are missing. Where are Uday and Qusay - Don Jr. and Eric?
Bill Barr probably belongs on there even though he bowed out before the main event.
Also I don't get why Joe Manchin is on there, he wasn't involved in this AFAIK.

(38,458 posts)it takes time to get the facts, use the facts, to indict, try the assholes for whatever, and get the whole story so we can get others
to be locked up...........
As has been said before..".Just the facts, just the facts"
We (the committee and Justice Department] are still ......getting the facts......
This is not, repeat NOT THE FINAL ACT OF THE SHOW.....
no I don't know what act this is.....Ask Joe Biden...I am not sure he knows either....
I don't even know ................How many acts there are to this show/movie...Do YOU?
Maybe remember this...........The Watergate Show took a whole lot of time for the show. & many were indeed locked
.up., .But time is the answer to this show...the cops are still getting the facts,..."Just the facts.."

(7,662 posts)Most people are not capable of indefinitely sustaining moral outrage. My concern is that too many people are retreating into "self-care" mode and seeking some sort of comfort instead of steeling themselves for increased resistance when it becomes necessary. The simultaneous burden of the Covid ordeal has added to the ongoing stress and weakened resolve.

What does that mean actually? Does it mean taking up arms and killing Magahats? I hope not.

(7,662 posts)I don't see people posting about phone banking, knocking on doors, texting, or writing postcards. Occasionally someone admits to donating money. My experience at our local Democratic Party office is similar- we are seeing less participation than in previous years.
As for taking up arms- I do believe in self-defense.

(51,129 posts)not numbing. I find the premise of the tweet wrong. We are not becoming numb, we are becoming informed, a key ingredient to a functioning democracy. I'm celebrating that it is still functioning. I'm pleased to see the degree to which it is engaging people. Anyone following the right people on Twitter knows that people are not being numbed, they are engaged and enraged. Those of us who experienced Watergate as adult politicos see this as the early stages of a shitload of criminal Republicans going to jail. The coup failed, pay up assholes.

(989 posts)which means everyone, including those who are dissatisfied with the Biden-Harris admin and the Democrats in Congress, needs to get down to work.
This is not the time for anyone to let their personal dissatisfaction with the president and his party give the Republicans one more vote with which to reverse the progress we've made and take power away from us ordinary people forever.
I truly don't know how to make this point any clearer.
I can't bear to see Biden's low poll numbers, the gloating from Republicans who are already sure they will take back both chambers, or the relentlessly negative coverage of Biden and Democrats from the media.
I can't bear thinking of Election Day in November and the possibility that low turnout on our side and enthusiasm on the right will doom us to another long period of darkness.
I can't bear the uncertainty.

(1,910 posts)Its the Trump play book, just break so many laws and norms that people lose focus. And it will work here too unless he is somehow criminally indicted and convicted. Anything short of that and he could very well win in 2024.
Suburban and swing voter just don't care. Losing democracy just goes right over their head and out of focus. Inflated food and gas prices, crime rampant in cities being blasted on every news cast, borders, Repugs telling them their girls will compete in sports vs trans kids and they are being taught the being white is bad. That is what swing voters will vote on.
If the election were held today, trump would win. He only lost because of Covid and now the messaging is that Biden blew it with the testing and messaging has been botched so Covid is not an advantage for him over Trump.

(35,825 posts)This morning I heard on NPR that independents are leaning toward Bernie. I tried to find a link and could not, however if it shows up, I'll post it. Not that this would make any difference. The election is a long way away.
Personally, I don't know what the beef is. A good deal of it is just media trash talking. On top of that, you have a republican media effort to constantly undermine Biden and to make him look bad in every way they can think of.
Three years is a long way down the pike, though, and I'm not worried. I think his ratings will recover. In fact, maybe it's a good thing they're (media) is getting it out of their system now instead of later. I don't think they will be able to continue this for three more years. Tedium will set in, and quite frankly, they really have nothing substantial to go on.

(5,485 posts)That fades away quickly.
It's pure anger!
Anger that some in America are/were trying to rot Democracy from within.
Anger that some can't be trusted.
Anger that normal people can convolute their thinking processes to the point that what they were/are doing is acceptable to themselves.
Anger that some have, and are still using the Constitution as toilet paper.
It's an anger I can sustain, and will sustain, long after the legal system has steamrollered those self serving cretins into oblivion.
It's an anger that will, and should, color history's accounts of the whole TFG's devastating entry into the history books.
And the strange thing is . . . . I'm not even American!
(But I do value honesty, trustworthiness and looking after the best interests of your countrymen if you are in a position of power.)

(6,861 posts)Against this?
They are passing laws against imaginary voting abuses left and right. Will any of of them pass something forbidding military seizure of their voting machines? Will any of them pass a law forbidding any president who ever proposed it from running again in their state?
We should encourage Democratic Legislatures to do just this.

Clearly seditious but even that has to qualify.
If you think it is treason re read the constitution first.
