"SNIP......
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) doesnt sound ready to move quickly on any narrower spending bill, Politico reports.
He indicated he wanted to start with clean sheet of paper and start over with negotiations on the climate and social spending package.
Said Manchin: Well just be starting from scratch whenever we start.
......SNIP"

(4,561 posts)You might as well tell us what you will "allow". Getting something would be better than nothing---
but we don't need to play games with you, Joemanchin, for another six months, only to end up with NOTHING again.
Now that BBB and the voting rights bill have been turned back, I'm tempted to think that you are missing all the media attention, and would like to get us back on that merry-go-round again...

(22,919 posts)If not than Manchin is the 50th vote needed to do something regarding the climate crisis. Supposedly in his last "offer" to Biden in December (which he withdrew) significant spending on climate proposals was included.
We literally owe it to the planet, and to both younger and future generations, to lock that part in, one way or another.

(4,274 posts)would be to first make his recent votes come with a heavy price. Biden has the authority to have Federal involvement/support in both manpower and money "slowed" by various means. Extra inspections, reconsideration of permits/project plans etc. Begin to reduce staffing at Federal offices. A "realignment/reassessment" is certainly in order. To not do this is letting Manchin crap in his hand and rub it in your face. He will never vote for anything further than the already passed infrastructure bill and he only did that after he got hefty reductions and because what was left was good for his pals and his pocket.
I know all about the screaming media claiming we can't do it because we will lose the Senate/Congress. Given the votes yesterday that is all but certain anyway. The game plan of the GQP with respect to the filibuster is going to be similar to what they have done in various state legislatures regarding gubernatorial/state AG powers. They vastly expand them when they are in power and then just before losing power they heavily restrict them during lame duck sessions. They will do the same with the filibuster.

Congress is done for this session.
Biden needs to go to executive orders for whatever can be done there.

(32,122 posts)I'm opposed to any discussions of a BBB without lifting the SALT Cap.
Tom Malinowski voting no on a bill that didn't include the lift - would assure victory for him in the 7th district.
If Manchin is serious - NJ's 7th Democratics Party Members need to start slamming Tom now to VOTE no. All NJ reps should vote no - unless SALT cap is lifted.
Manchin's turn in the barrel.
