House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn on Sunday criticized Senator Kyrsten Sinemas argument for supporting the Senate filibuster, which he and other Democrats have hoped to sidestep in order to pass voting rights legislation.
Clyburn said his caucus isnt trying to eliminate the filibuster entirely and noted that lawmakers recently voted to break the filibuster to raise the debt limitall 50 Senate Democrats, as well as 14 Republicans moved to do so.
Why? Because we dont want to put the full faith and credit of the United States at risk, he said.
No one has asked her to eliminate the filibuster, he added. The filibuster is there for all these issues that may be policy issues. But when it comes to the Constitution of the United States of America, no one person sitting downtown in a spa ought to be able to pick up the telephone and say you are going to put a hold on my ability to vote.
So I would wish they would stop that foolishness, he added. Because if we do not protect the vote with everything that weve got, we will not have a country to protect going forward.

(2,868 posts)when they get to the floor debate, takes down Sinema's ridiculous and unfounded 'arguments', one by one, without mentioning her name, just stating that anyone who believes such falsehoods is dangerously misinformed.

(10,715 posts)The whole "white fear" idea of a diverse nation of voters actually determining it's own best interests, as opposed to a white-majority with a finger on the scales, always.
The stated fear of continued division is really the fear of actual equality, where all people make it or not according to their merits. I suspect there are plenty of white people who fear that themselves and their white children are not really up the the task. Which might sound racist itself, but if you start from the stated principle that "all men are created equal", then that's the principle. No take-backs or messing around.
I'm white myself and I also have kids. I'm ok with the idea that we all find our own path and our own place equally.
The only other explanation is that she got paid off, but it would be either racism or corruption, Nice to think that those two simple things are what really determines the path of the nation going forward.
