In July, President Joe Biden announced that he intended to nominate Deborah Lipstadt, a renowned Holocaust scholar, to lead a new office at the State Department assigned to battle soaring antisemitism around the globe.
The decision drew praise from more than 20 liberal and conservative Jewish groups, all of whom were impressed with Lipstadts sterling credentials and her reputation for standing up to antisemitism wherever she saw it, whether it was neo-Nazi marches in Charlottesville, Virginia, or a liberal icon in Congress.
Yet nearly six months later, Lipstadts nomination remains in limbo, thwarted by Senate Republicans who have complained that she criticized some of them on Twitter.
Lipstadt is among the most prominent of hundreds of Biden nominees whose bids for Senate-confirmed jobs have languished because of partisan dysfunction or personal pique. In a rare though hardly shining example of comity, members of both parties agree the confirmation system is a contentious mess, owing in part to what Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the minority leader, has called turf problems.

(22,191 posts)the dumps, all to make republicans look good, damn whatever anybody else suffers during the process. These thugs would rather see the Country go down in flames before they ever let other Americans come to the forefront, and do what's best for the Country and us.
I hope one day we see more and more sedition charges, and other charges for this anti-American behavior, on the part of republican Congresspersons, who block every single effort for Pres. Biden to get his picks in via the Senate confirmation process. They claim other reasons to block these nominations, but I strongly suspect that they're doing it for purely spite and purely partisan reasons. Nothing at all about doing what's right for the Country.
