Every single one of them was provided with a free computer and free internet within a few weeks.

shutdowns / remote learning will most likely happen again if there is a worse variant and or enough deaths or the hc system, which was already not adequate to handle normal scenarios, is even more in jeopardy, especially if the young and healthy are affected more because we have seen that the elderly and high risk don’t matter enough. And who cares if we lose a few teachers, they are just glorified baby sitters and can be easily replaced.

In the early days I personally had 4 laptops cleaned up and turned into Chromebooks and gave them to my neighbor, a school administrator, for the kids who needed them. After that I was available to raise money or whatever as the need arose. Over time I hustled up food, school supplies, a microwave, two blowup air mattresses, rolling carts, clothing, personal hygiene items, laundry detergent, and money.

Still at it. I don't have any children.

You are correct - but it is worth looking at WHY they may not.

The WHOLE WORLD is frustrated with COVID. THAT is a fact. And sadly, we are ALL part of a 'fix-it-now' society, perhaps reluctantly willing to make some 'universal sacrifice' for a 'little while' - but 'HEY, we got our RIGHTS!!!!'

Somewhere along the line COVID failed to 'get the memo' that 'this shit can only go on so long.....'

Science and research tells us what's happening NOW - and they openly admit that 'things can happen.'

We have a choice - after all, we ARE free, right!

We can 'listen' and cooperate with those that are doing the best that they can with what they know at the moment, or we can be petulant little kids, falling on the floor kicking and screaming "I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!"

Many adults and most parents will 'get' that - and also understand what needs to be done.

I was frustrated today trying to find a Covid testing place that was open for walk ins. I finally went to an Urgent Care and got my 17 year old daughter tested. (She's positive.) My frustration stemmed from no mass testing or readily available at home tests. Neither are to be found in the Portland area at the moment. I can't believe that in the third year of this pandemic that we are still woefully unprepared for this.

It's been many years, but when my child was 5, she didn't have that kind of sway. She was given plenty of choices over things like whether her sandwich was cut into rectangles or triangles, what color of shirt to wear, grapes or orange slices for lunch? But doing her schoolwork? Not up for debate.

Also, the author spent a lot of time saying that children are less at risk, but schools have lots of people in them that are not children. This was a really lengthy essay to essentially say, "I would rather school employees die than inconvenience me."

This is what is wrong with too many Americans, they cannot be inconvenienced. In their minds, Covid should just magically disappear.

Before this started, I always thought that the way dystopian tv shows portrayed people as irrational morons was way over the top. Turns out that they were downplaying the craven disregard people will show for others, when their weekend plans are put on hold.

If you go back to the beginning, had the whole country just eaten their figurative broccoli for a few months, we could have greatly reduced the impact of this virus and been out of the woods much sooner. Globally speaking, there may not have been a Delta or an Omicron.

Note: Real broccoli might have helped, too.

She must have forgotten the Rep party and that 'Resident that said the deaths would go down to one, ripped off hospitals and states of much needed PPE and put the front line workers at risk. Jared profited off PPE and stole shipments going to hospitals in need. My ICU niece had to wear a raincoat backwards. Reps, bought and sold stocks to profit off Covid.

She whines, yet so many people have died for not following the science and refused to be vaccinated. Was she? I may have missed that.

JFC - More Americans have died from this Pandemic than were killed in WWI and WWII combined, and during those times, this entire country put it's lives on hold for YEARS!

At least we aren't being asked to ration meat, sweets and fuel.

Hell, people held scrap metal drives and manned USO stations. Of course, that was way back when we actually gave a shit about each other, and worked and sacrificed to defend our Democracy from fascism and authoritarianism.

Attitudes like this. Just the absolute disregard for our common good and our common values makes me think this fucking country isn't worth saving.

You're worried that your school's online gym class is "ridiculous" but at least your child LIVED and maybe even learned something from that class, instead of ending up hospitalized or DEAD like so many MAGAt brats in Florida and Texas.

As Justice Sotomayor stated today, we have 100000 children in the hospital in critical condition because hillbilly trash racists insist on sending their whiny little god-fearin' cabbage brats to school.

It's people like this that will fuck us in the 2022 election. Just because you didn't get every single little thing checked off your list doesn't mean you throw away the whole damn party. I'm sick of that noise.

Listen, I am poor as all fuck. Super poverty. We have been super poor for a long time. 2020 was going to be my year to really rise up...get away from my abusive husband, get a new apartment with just me and my kids, finally have a little financial success and start to rise up. But....my mom died. Then the pandemic. We both lost our jobs. Our kids school went full virtual. I have some heart shit so we worked on protecting me. And it's been a shitshow ever since. My dad died a few months ago and things have gone downhill. I get it. Everything fucking sucks right now. It's difficult to get help. It's difficult to get work, especially when we were taking care of my dad and now has estate. And my kids are virtual again. I am so Fucking angry that everything is mismanaged. I am so angry that it seems like we're going to keep drowning. I'm so angry that everything is a mess. Is it the Dems fault? Are you fucking kidding me? Dems would LOVE to help people get all of their basic needs net - raise SNAP,universal healthcare for all, universal basic wage, easier access to housing....all the shit the GOP cries about. But....we didn't have control. The GOP has blocked us from doing the right thing every.step.of.the.way. When Dems make progress, we get blocked by lawsuits seen before Trump-appointed judges and appeals to the Supreme Court stacked by the GOP. Fuck, I live in a "blue" (lol) state with a Dem governor. Our GOP legislature strangled his ability to protect our citizens. They stripped him of his ability to declare states of emergency and issue mandates. And these same fuckers turn around and complain that he is not doing anything.

I have kids in school and I have watched in horror as "moms for liberty" assholes screamed at your school board and teachers, send death threats, and harassed little kids. All because of virtual school and masks. Now our school board is afraid to make big moves because they kinda don't want their families threatened again. When our dems take a stand they get threats of violence and death and lawsuits. People show up to their offices and houses with guns. Everything we try to enact gets called, "waah waah socialism." How can you work with that?

Has the author paid attention to ANYTHING in the last 2 years? I'm not 100% happy with all dems all the time, too, but the writing is on the damn wall.
