Garland will not speak about specific people or charges, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the speech had not yet been officially announced.

(53,957 posts)think Garland hasn't caught a whiff of Democratic dissatisfaction at the lack of movement against the actions/non-actions of the insurrectionists and trump cabal on Jan. 6? Seems that's the reason for the speech on Wednesday, to explain what's happening.

(21,473 posts)I go to a lot of progressive sites on social media on Sirius radio, and every site is full of when will garland act. That's putting it mildly.

(102,468 posts)They have a long relationship, but I have no idea whether he is inferring he'd spoken to Garland, or he's hearing from someone else. But, I believe Tribe when he says that.
Budi
(15,325 posts)He wouldn't hurry up a case of this scope, even if he wanted people to stop saying bad things about him.
What the heck kind of woosy AG would jam together a case of this magnitude to please a bunch of howling people who have literally ZERO knowledge of thos case?
I hope he is being so damned nitpicky perfect that when all the National & Foreign assists, & Trump' & his congressional lackeys, & White Supremacist groups that acted out the biggest crime against our US Govt, are brought together with the most absolute proof necessary, & finally presented in one big ugly picture, thre will be no doubt nor ability to spin it any other way but the obvious crime against the US Govt.
I hope Garland is so damned thorough that not one criminal will ever be free to walk this world again.
That's what I expect from AG Garland & his DOJ, the team of the finest our nation has to lend him, along with the findings of the Jan 6 committee via referrals.
For THAT, I will gladly give Garland all the time it takes.

Budi
(15,325 posts)Until he is certain of his legal cases, every i dotted & t crossed, Garland would never submit even a hint, nor a case that may possibly compromise the certain prosecution he seeks.
The reach of the Jan 6 coup must be stunning.
Garland has been on this case only 9 months since he was appointed.
Cases where the mob was 'brought down' have often taken years to complete. This case is far deeper than what we've seen before.
People have been yelling at AG Garland to 'do something!' since June ffs.

I'd rather it be done perfect.

(58,785 posts)a huge clue to what that job does NOT include -- of necessity -- is the normally 0 public statements about and 0 leaks during DoJ investigations.
Distrust is huge these days; but if an AG was "reporting" to the people, that'd mean tRump was still in power and his extremely corrupt, politicized AG was still lying to us.

(82,383 posts)people who want things to go faster just have to suck it up. A lot of the time it is necessary to explain to clients that they can't just have what they want when they want it. There can be backlogs of cases and they just have to wait, or as in a case like this, you need the evidence and it cannot just be made to order but has to be found.
Budi
(15,325 posts)I can't even imagine the layers of criminality & the tentacles each one revealed.
Where AG Garland began & where he'll end in this case that winds a path to the highest US Office & around the globe, to the darkest international criminal organizations, will be a documentation of legal intrigue for every AG in the future to guide them as they too confront similar criminality.
Treason, espionage, the plot to overthrow all Nations of a Democratic govt, & the criminality of such a vast & ruthless Global reach.
This is the wong that AG Garland is tasked with making right.

(6,942 posts)GlennKirschner in today's video ventured to predict that he will not name any names - and there are some other things he will not talk about - because silence is the professionally correct thing.
So anyone who is expecting juicy details should expect to be disappointed. The DOJ is not a tabloid.

(15,325 posts)..knowledge of the process doesn't mean a hoot without the quantity of data to make that determination.
I'd hope the case AG is building will be one so strong that no technicality will be missed.
Because it will be challenged every step of the way.

(21,661 posts)that being said if he just says "we are looking at all aspects of the event including its planning and actions of those during the attack, but it is going to take time, so chill out", i think that would go a LONG way to easing minds.
as a concerned citizen i don't expect a breakdown of everything they are doing, i'd just like to know that the planning of the attack is "on the radar".

(16,590 posts)Garland's not doing anything and never will do anything, and I'm not even going to try to argue with any of them. It would be silly to argue about something none of us actually KNOWS (no matter how sure some people may feel in their own minds), and I have better things to do with my time.
I would, however, like to point out that this (an actual update from the AG on what's happening with the Jan. 6 investigation) is a new wrinkle, and I am hoping it will be the start of something big. NOT saying it definitely will be, (because how the hell would I know), just saying I really hope it is.
As far as I know, I AM still allowed to hope (no matter how many other people are convinced that there is no hope), and so I am going to do that! Why? Because completely giving up hope goes against my grain, so I refuse to do that. Thats just how it is for me.

(11,123 posts)speech about how good the DOJ is. Could be a list of how many are convicted and how many are in jail.
Without the latter, it will serve a no deterrence for further right wing lunacy. Without specifics regarding punishment and progress towards more convictions, a speech about his "department's unwavering commitment to defend Americans" could have come from any AG under any president regardless of party. The article says the AG will not discuss any individuals or sentencing. That would make it a speech that bill barr could have given.
However, I keep hoping every time. We all keep wanting heroes.

(714 posts)I sincerely hope Garland is smart enough to wait until after Trump's event that day to make the announcement.
It'd be terrible to make the announcement then for Trump to immediately be given a nationally-covered event in order to refute or spin whatever was said by DOJ.
