Christmas day, my beloved uncle M, was pronounced dead on a ventilator from complications of covid Omicron.

His adult sons kept him on a ventilator for 2 days so his other adult son could make the harrowing trip from North Carolina to northern Minnesota in severe winter weather to say goodbye to his dying father. In other words, he was already pronounced dead but kept alive by a ventilator so his family could say one last goodbye.

Uncle M was a successful person. Smart as a whip. Just turned 60 a few months ago. Seemed quite healthy for his age.

He was also a huge anti-vaxxer.

That stupid decision cost him his life.

Covid killed his otherwise healthy 60 year old body.

It took about 4 days from his early symptoms to his death diagnosis.

That's how real this disease really is.

How is it that smart people get so easily led astray from wisdom, like getting your fucking shot?

He was a rabid fan of Fox News and Qanon-type conspiracy theories. He allowed himself to be brainwashed by RW media and social media.

It cost him his life.

Free speech is not the same as freedom to lie, especially in a public forum, and even moreso as a co-called "News" organization. When there are safety and health consequences, those lies should result in criminal liabilities appropriate for the crime. Several hundred thousand are dead that wouldn't ahve been of they had been vaxxed. Mass murder seems like a criminal offense to me.

It's infuriating that these people can lie with no consequences to themselves, even though they are creating a tsunami of damage throughout the nation and indeed the world. Worse yet, a lot of it is being spawned in countries who are trying to destroy our way of life. It should not be allowed, and certainly the freedom of speech the founders of our nation intended, did not include deceiving whole populations into committing mass suicide by stupidity.

7. You make a pretty good case. The problem is that we live in a world of profits

over people. Every. Single. Time.

This is because of the 1919 MI Supreme Court ruling in favor of shareholder primacy. Now, with a publicly held corporation, the ONLY thing that matters is profits for shareholders because of this doctrine. This is why so many CEOs are psychopath - because shareholder primacy encourages psychopathic behavior.

Consider:
If you are the CEO of a publicly traded company, you will bust your union, compromise on worker safety, steal wages if you can get away with it, steal pensions if you can, and outsource jobs overseas. You will reduce the size of packages but charge the same price or even more. You will compromise on quality of component parts, and even on consumer safety. We have all heard of companies who know a product is unsafe but have calculated their profits will be higher if they merely pay out on claims rather than correct the problem.

And when it comes to the environment, you will foul it whenever you can get away with it, and if there is a problem, you will attempt to pass on the cost of cleaning it up to taxpayers, while keeping the profits.

So how does this have to do with what happened to your uncle M? Simple. The Fox Corporation (FOXA) is publicly traded. It's CEO Lachlan Murdoch is OBLIGATED to seek profits for shareholders above all else, at the expense of workers, consumers of the product, and the environment. Same with Twitter, Facebook, and all the rest. These are publicly traded companies who could absolutely care less if people die from their product as long as they do not have to pay out.

See?

Profit over people.

This is why the shareholder primacy brand of capitalism here in 'Murika SUCKS so very, very much, and why it is crying out for some serious reform.

2% case fatality rate is still holding, and the odds get worse by age. The death % for 60 is slightly higher. We still don't know if this us actually milder. The early #s out of Europe don't show it being milder. USA has been mooring 1-3,00 per day all month.
