Donner Pass is a MAJOR truck route.

it's been a while since we've had a wet year (at least I'm hoping this trend continues and we have appreciable precipitation in January and February): Donner Pass used to be closed regularly back then. Yes, it's a major truck route and it's one of the few ways over the Sierras that's usually kept open in winter. Snow in the Sierra Nevada (and how do you think they got that name?) is something to look forward to, as that's the water supply for much of the state for the coming year.
