I assumed you were referring to one of the Tweeters using a pseudonym.

As for Bar-Yam, he has a PhD from MIT, so he's certainly respectable in that field. According to his Wikipedia page (I know, but it's the only info I see), he was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University and seems to have done very respectable work with complex systems, with applications to pandemics. So he's not some crank theorizing from the sidelines.

And the genetic tracker , nextstrain, is showing it as a new strain. Omicron is believed to be a hybrid of Covid and a cold virus.
