Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Wednesday said that the character of Democrats had been "revealed" by a "time of crisis," but the lawmaker forgot to mention that he fled his own state last year when a winter storm crisis hit.
During a 20-minute appearance on CBNC, Cruz repeatedly railed against vaccine mandates and downplayed the need to be vaccinated.
But less than a year ago, Cruz avoided a crisis in his home state by fleeing to Cancun, Mexico as millions of Texans were without power and heat. The senator eventually called the trip a "mistake."

(50,299 posts)vaccine mandates is one that reveres life and good health while the character of someone who flees a life-threatening situation for the beach reveals a self-centered, pathetic excuse for a human being.

Its very curious because he is a smart and educated man. His lust for power must over-ride any sense of personal reflection.
Hes a dangerous creature.

(49,020 posts)... are not authoritarianism.
Banning teaching about the facts of US history is authoritarianism.
Threatening Florida university professors with their jobs for speaking the truth is authoritarianism.
Hiding aggregate medical information is authoritarianism.
Orphaning children at the border to "punish" the parents is authoritarianism.

Cruz has been self sabotaging for years now, but I think if he bought himself a big reborn campaign he might manage to rise again. When and if the crazy right looks for a righteous Der Leader.

(20,000 posts)The Cancun Loon has probably taken a lot of heat over his self-serving escapism in a "time of crisis." Looks like he may now be trying to save himself by projecting his lack of character onto others.

(11,742 posts)Democratic politicians are authoritarians in his myopic and inconsistent view of the term. He does not agree with public health steps to combat a virus which has killed 800,000 Americans in the span of 2 years and continues to spread because one party has convinced enough people to reject scientific process for some kind of political game.
Meanwhile, Conservative / Republican law makers are working tirelessly to deny bodily autonomy to women, for strictly religious and political reasons. In a country where religion can be freely practiced on an individual level, but should not be imposed by the government, Republican lawmakers are imposing their religious ideology on more than 50% of the population.
Yet, we are the authoritarians. We are authoritarians because we are trying make public health mentality obligatory as a result of the complete FAILURE of one party to promote a communitarian mindset of balancing self interest with the health and safety of others.
Republicans think that two gay men, or two lesbians getting married will bring about the collapse of society and they want to ban it, yet a controlling the spread of a virus that has killed about 800,000 more Americans in 2 years and caused more economic damage to the US and world than LGBT relationships have done in EVER!; that should just be a personal choice and the government should stay out of it.
That is the mindset that we are dealing with. The mendacity and the moral cowardice.
