Teachers Call BS on DeSantis Bonkers Attempt to Outlaw Critical Race Theory
FAIL
The governors Stop W.O.K.E. Act will also allow parents to sue any schools that dabble in CRT, and will force students to take civics tests.

Without actually proving that critical race theory is taught in Florida schools, DeSantis said it will be banished from all public schools. In a novel tactic, parents will be able to sue schools suspected of teaching the ideology. He quipped that parents know whats best for their children and that educators lie about whether they teach critical race theory to students.
But Florida teacher Dr. Cindy Banyai, who ran as a Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives last year, said no K-12 schools in Florida even teach CRT.
Florida Education Association President Andrew Spar said in a statement that politicians shouldnt be trying to censor teachers ability to teach American history.

(32,738 posts)Tucker Pushes Racist Great Replacement Theory Yet Again, ADL Renews Call for Fox to Fire Him

The Anti-Defamation League is reiterating its calls for Fox News to fire Tucker Carlson after the networks primetime star went all-in on espousing the racist Great Replacement theory this week.
The last time Carlson embraced the conspiracy theory, his boss Lachlan Murdoch dismissed the outrage, claiming the Fox star was merely talking about voting rights. But now, the ADL said, Carlson is openly embracing white nationalist talking points.
The Fox News host has repeatedly fear-mongered about Democrats allegedly bringing in dark-skinned immigrants with the express purpose of replacing the American (read: white) electorate. On Wednesday night, he declared that the Biden administration is intentionally trying to change the racial mix of the country through immigration.
In political terms, this policy is called the great replacement, the replacement of legacy Americans with more obedient people from far-away countries, Carlson exclaimed. They brag about it all the time, but if you dare to say it's happening they will scream at you with maximum hysteria.

(4 posts)Time for a law that allows citizens to sue Fox News for teaching the country bullshit. Make them prove every talking point in court with real legal consequences for lying about it. Of course the Banana Republicans will start suing CNN and the like, but they can prove their stories and will be left paying courts costs and legal fees.

Parents suing schools in Florida,
Residents of Florida suing DeSantis because he's an imbecile,
DeSantis counter-suing every resident of Florida because they hurt his feelings by calling him an imbecile,
EVERYBODY suing tfg, because... well, just because, and
there's still the unsettled litigation by Devin Nunes' cow demanding warmer milking gloves.
Sure wish I'd gone to Law School.

(1,396 posts)Recently in Spotsylvania County they tried banning some books and the entire population of the school refused to attend school until the ban was removed.
I can see Gov. elect "Bumpkin" trying that in VA but it won't work.

(9,902 posts)is not taught in schools, way even argue with them on this non-issue. Let them ban it, since it isn't happening. It's turning into a bit of a strawman, why engage?

(5,935 posts)Most MAGAs don't know what CRT is. To them it's teaching anything about racial history that shows white folks in a less-than-flattering light. Whether it's lessons on equality or our civil rights movement, MAGAs see a sinister plot to make their children feel bad and hate whites. The WOKE act gives them a club with which to pound at schools.
We engage and make people aware of the B.S. to hopefully take that club away.

(43,640 posts)white systemic culpability. They damn well know that actual CRT is not taught in any high school, but they have appropriated the name and weaponised it in their march towards a white nationalist, christofascist-dominated form of local, state and national governance.

(3,248 posts)It's to create fear.
They want teachers to be thinking twice before they give lessons on anything concerning slavery, civil rights etc.

(633 posts)So now, let me guess....when a Florida teacher talks about, let's say, Rosa Parks in class (something that has been discussed for decades in American schools and is not Critical Race Theory), how much do you want to bet that a Florida parent would now feel they would have every right to sue the school??!

(49,060 posts)* Slavery is and was an evil
* Slavery is a part of American history. It is implicit in the US Constitution. 3/5 and all that. It had to be outlawed by Constitutional Amendment.
* Slavery was the reason for the Civil War. It is mentioned multiple times in official articles of secession and other documents and statements around that time.
* Many ways in all the years between then and now and including now, people of colour have been suppressed and oppressed. Systemically. Especially in the South, but actually also in all parts of the country.
If learning these facts is enough to make people hate, then hiding them won't make it better. Hiding them perpetuates the hate and the division. Learning them and improving society is the only way forward, the only way to put them so far into the past that learning them doesn't make anybody hate anybody.
But that will only happen if learning these facts well starts now.

(25,816 posts)using the term CRT. I had a very good Black History class in '69, before I had ever heard
of CRT. Of course, Critical Theory ideas are applied to other areas besides race. Critical Economic
Theory, etc, etc. I think it's the word 'critical' that bothers the repub racists.
So, maybe teachers can artfully dodge the BS just by not using those three words.
