Traditionally, the media are on the lookout for serious "gaffes" during Presidential debates.
Last night, during a discussion of foreign policy regarding Syria, Mitt tried to explain why the issue was so important. He said that Syria was vital to Iran to give it a path to ocean freight for exports.
Can you imagine putting Romney in charge of military decisions on Middle East operations?
He reminded me of Gerald Ford's famous debate gaffe on "no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe." Somebody email this guy a map!

edited into short chunks to allow lots of commercials?
I did not see the whole thing, but I did see the segment that was supposed to be devoted to Syria. Did the gaffe occur during the segment on Iran?

"Syria is Iran's only ally; it's their route to the sea."
On a second hearing, it doesn't jump out to you as it does the first time.

(903 posts)5. Maybe he thinks that Iraq would be required to give them the easement...?
BUT- he is correct that it would be their route to the "sea". The Mediterranean. All that they have now is direct access to the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
But no Sea.

Kid's been planning this revenge for a long time.
