Trump Would've Already Made a Vaccine for Omicron Variant, Stephen Miller Claims

Stephen Miller, former White House senior advisor under Republican former President Donald Trump, has baselessly claimed that if Trump were still president, he would have already developed a vaccine for the new COVID-19 omicron variant.

"If President Trump was still in office, by the way, we'd already have modified vaccines to deal with the new variant," Miller said on Fox News' Hannity Friday night.

The variant was first reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday. WHO only designated it as a "variant of concern" on Friday.

It took the Trump Administration 11 months to develop its first COVID-19 vaccine after the first confirmed case emerged in the U.S. on January 20, 2020. Trump authorized the speedy development of the vaccine under Operation Warp Speed, but it wasn't available until December 17, 2020.

for Sars-Cov-2, it was only a matter of weeks until the pharma companies made the very first vaccines for it.

Big difference between making a small amount and making billions of doses... not to mention running them through all the trials needed to prove both safety and efficacy.

That is a year long process (which they actually accomplished in about 9 months).

Making a variation of the vaccine (IF needed) might go faster, but will still take months.

7. The pharma companies

have already sequenced the genes in the variant.

It will take all of 2 weeks to tweak the major vaccines (Moderna, Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, J & J) to account for the changes in the spike protein.

The problem is that it will take months, probably 3 to 4 months if not longer, to run the tweaked vaccines through the various trials that will need to happen. That said, we should do Warp Speed 2 where we ramp up production of the new vaccines ahead of the clinical safety and efficacy trials on the bet that at least a couple of the vaccines will get EUA.

That is... IF the current vaccines are not good enough (we think Omicron evades them, but we don't KNOW that or to what degree).
