Nobody self-identifies as being anti-science

I don't believe I've ever heard anybody fess up to being anti-science. Any yet, so may are. Why is this?

Those who follow the scientific method will gravitate to hypotheses and theories which best fit all available sound evidence. As new evidence arrives, they will move to new positions accordingly. Using this logical framework, they will actively work to maximize the true things they believe and minimize the false things they believe. It's not about absolute guarantees which are a rare commodity.

Stated this way, it seems untenable to follow any incompatible paths to truth. Any yet there are so many who believe the Earth is 6,000 years old, the risks associated with getting vaccinated exceed those of getting infected, and anthropogenic climate change is a hoax.

I can only conclude that the anti-science types simply don't understand the scientific method, or they fully understand it but have a hidden agenda which has corrupted them.

1. Scientists try to destroy their own theories; trumpanzees constantly seek confirmation

The more a theory withstands attempts to knock it down, the more it is trusted by scientists.

The more social media posts a trumpanzee can find supporting their beliefs, the more strongly they hold them. They proudly say "I did my own research!"

2. Many people say "A blockage prevents me from learning math". Nobody says that about literacy

They get sympathy and support whining about high school math, but they know they would get no sympathy or support whining about high school literacy.

Damn laziness and cultural biases against "book learnin' ", nerds, and "libruhl universities".

when they were in elementary/high school. This leads to their dismissal of education and scientific fact.
They believe that education "failed them".
They dislike educated people because they will always be inferior to educated people, and they know it.

8. They think science is the same as the power struggles within their crap anti-intellectual religions.

They compare scientists to their dumb ass preachers, as if science is simply the picking and choosing of which scientists to "believe in."

11. People think science is what scientists do. The problem here is that there are fake scientists.

For example, TV's Dr. Oz and the internet's Dr. Mercola are fake-scientist-doctor types and people follow them.

Much of what they proffer is true science and fact, but then they mix in the alternative facts. It becomes a mush of truth.

I have a female friend, about 70, who is very liberal, but also an anti-vaxxer. She quotes all sorts of fake scientists to justify not getting her shots. Other than this bit of craziness, she's a beautiful human being.

Not all but a good number are totally anti medical science and as a principle ask God for advice.

There are others like Mormons and mostly they just let their kids die.

Not true for everybody, but mostly true.
I see signs around here saying "Follow The Science: Unmask Our Kids".
Now, we know no credible scientific review says maskless kids are safer, but the people who display these signs don't think of themselves as anti-science.
They've been suckered by huckster "scientists", but they believe they are listening to science.
It's ridiculous & wrong, but they are using "science" as the foundation of their position.
That's not anti-science. It's just incorrect.
