Rep. Lauren Boebert apologizes after drawing criticism for telling anti-Muslim story about Omar

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) apologized Friday after she drew criticism online for sharing an anti-Muslim story about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) during Thanksgiving break.

During an event in her Colorado district, Boebert told the audience about an encounter with Omar in the Capitol, describing another encounter with Omar as “not my first ‘Jihad Squad’ moment,” according to a video posted on Twitter.

“I was getting into an elevator with one of my staffers,” Boebert told the laughing crowd. “You know, we’re leaving the Capitol and we’re going back to my office and we get an elevator and I see a Capitol police officer running to the elevator. I see fret all over his face, and he’s reaching, and the door’s shutting, like I can’t open it, like what’s happening. I look to my left, and there she is. Ilhan Omar. And I said, ‘Well, she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine.’ ” . . .

Omar says it never happened and then called Bobert a "buffoon."

On Friday, Boebert tweeted an apology, saying she had reached out to Omar. . . .
Boebert’s apology came after her comments drew bipartisan criticism online, with Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) calling her “TRASH” on Twitter and retweeting a message in support of Boebert’s primary challenger, Marina Zimmerman.

Hateful, demeaning words are hurtful. Angry words, words of ill-will are hurtful without virtue or merit. Was she raised in a barn? Did her parents neglect to socialize her? It's really quite tragic that a grown woman would behave like a grade school mean girl.

Please somebody! Give her a copy of Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People."

"Thank you. Lauren, why do you have to dehumanize people? It dehumanizes the dehumanizer too." Long pause.

Depending on the reaction I might add, "and it's not christian either".

It's a good thing Omar is who she is and not me! But one has to seize openings, not to drive a wedge into, but to "stop their world" and get them to think for a moment.

and had that and violence normalized for her. She was encouraged to drop out of school and marry the man who groomed her, and was a known sexual predator. She gets a certain amount of sympathy for me until she was about 23 or so. Since then, no. Fuck her. She revels in her awfulness, and unlike MTG, I don't think she is off her rocker and a sociopath, but is "just" a sociopath, and also stupid AF.

What happened to her formed her, and really sucked for her, but instead of using that to become better and work for the light, she is a fucking Sith.

“I apologize to anyone in the Muslim community I offended with my comment about Rep. Omar. I have reached out to her office to speak with her directly,” Boebert tweeted. “There are plenty of policy differences to focus on without this unnecessary distraction.”

Which surprises me. I can’t remember the last time a GOPer sincerely apologized without weasel words like “IF I offended anyone” (like it’s your fault you got offended).

Granted, it would be better for her not to say stupid shit in the first place, but … baby steps.

Why they were wrong.

Explains that the offender recognizes why pain was caused.

Explains the steps that will be taken so the offender will not make the same mistake again.

IMO, the apology was only slightly better than the typical "sorry if you were offended", but it wasn't a real, unforced apology.

But reaching out to apologize is a good step, assuming they actually do it. That just struck me as uncharacteristically adult for such a childish politician and party.
