When progressive House Democrats fought a vote to pass aid for Israels Iron Dome defense shield, the outrage among both mainstream Democrats and Republicans boiled over.
Florida Democratic Rep. Ted Deutch asserted that the opposition permitted the dismantling of the one Jewish state in the world. The National Republican Senatorial Committee labeled the progressives as anti-Israel radicals.
But in the two months since then, the Senates taken no action to finalize passage.
And Jewish Democrats are largely blaming one man: Rand Paul. That same level of outrage has not been directed toward this one senator: Rand Paul, said Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America. Rand Pauls hold is far more consequential than those eight no votes put together.

Change the demographics of the opposition and all of a sudden there are no ad hominem attacks, barrages, cartoons, yadda yadda yadda... Interesting.

(7,611 posts)The entire article. Sen. Paul supports providing Iron Dome to Israel
He would like the funding for it to be taken out of an appropriation for aid to Afghanistan which was passed prior to the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, a government now dedicated to the oppression of women. That is why he has placed a hold on funding Iron Dome.

(35,091 posts)It is not going to the Taliban, she said.
Now when you say "the entire article", you mean that part too, yes?
Also the Biden administration has stated has frozen the Taliban's assets and will not fund the Taliban... but if we just want to take Republican Senator Rand Paul at his word, what other positions of his should we emulate?
The Magistrate
(95,255 posts)He is clearly seeking to leave Israel exposed to the depredation of jihadist rockets, like any other anti-semite in league with terrorists. No other explanation is possible.
"Can't nobody here play this game?'

(95,255 posts)This fixation on being fair to opponents has always struck me as ludicrous. It can certainly be a tool of engagement, but its moral effect has strict limits, which have long been passed in the need to break the power of the christo-fascist right. In a serious contest, never be more fair than your opponent. In fact, be a bit less fair if there's room.
So again, this anti-semitic loon from Kentucky is seeking to leave Israel bare to attacks from his jihadi terrorist pals and their deadly rockets aimed at kindergartens and worse. He doesn't just do what he can to help Hamas, he is fucking Hamas in the flesh, here in the U.S. Senate. Never forget it!

(7,611 posts)Had frozen the Afghanistan aid money anyway.

(35,091 posts)So Paul's making a big stink about nothing then...

(7,611 posts)Indicated that there is 3 billion in aid for the Afghan military that has been frozen because no one can certify that the present regime doesn't oppress women. I'm guessing that is where Sen. Paul wants the money for Iron Dome to come from.
