Even though I've seen it before, and pieces of it a number of times, I was still spellbound.

Have read about it. Two different endings were scheduled. The other ending, Ilsa leaves with Rick, was not filmed after viewing the rushes of Ilsa not leaving with Rick. I suspect that Bogart played his conflicted character, so that either ending was plausible. That conflict made him great in that role - imvho. [Not a movie buff, just loved that and very few other movies]. Knowing the ending, I appreciated so much the way it was put together: the lighting in black & white, 'the story', the semiotics, etc.

So many great lines - that still work.
